It will not automatically lock itself if you forget to. Relocking only occurs if the vehicle is unlocked via key or handle and no door is opened. If a door goes unopened during the set time period, then it will relock. If a door has been opened, no relocking will occur, including if you walk away from the vehicle.

Few cars today function like that with automatic locking upon walking away, Tesla being one of the only ones that comes to mind.

That is correct. I corrected my original post. I experimented today a number of times. What I observed is, if I unlock the door but do not open it, it gets automatically locked. But it does not get automatically locked if the door has been opened after unlocking it which is going to be the case if the driver turns off the ignition and then gets out of the car. So the 4GS does not take care of forgetful drivers

Why wouldn't you want it to do that?

When I park my vehicles in my home's garage I never lock them. Why should I? They are safe in my garage. I never carry the key fob around the house. However, I may want to get something out of the glove box, console or the trunk. I don't want to have to remember to pickup the key fob when I go to the garage to open the door or trunk when it is secure in my garage. Plus, there are a number of scenarios where a vehicle that automatically locks the doors would not be a safe thing to have happen.

Default power trunk

Double click the button at the trunk to disable the motor and open trunk manual. Just stumbled upon this after years of ownership.

I wish we had the ability to leave the car running and lock the doors from the door handle or fob. I could do that with my Altima, but can't do it with the GS.

You can. You have to use the mechanical key in the door lock. It's not worth the hassle but the option is there.

Question Unknown feature?

After reading the various key fob programming items I tried something and don't know what it does. If I hold down the Lock and Unlock buttons at the same time for three seconds the car emits two beeps. If I do it again the car emits three beeps. This sequence can be repeated with the same results each time. I can't discern what, if any, change is made by this action. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am new to Lexus ownership having purchased a new 2017 GS350 F Sport October 30, 2017. I am also new to Club Lexus and have already learned a number of tweaks and tricks related to this vehicle. Thanks to all who contribute here.

When you hold those buttons on the fob together for 5 seconds, and the car beeps 3 times, it sets the car to unlock just the driver's door when you place your hand on the door handle.

When you do it and it beeps 2 times, it sets all doors to unlock when you unlock the driver's door.

Thank you JDR76. Mine seems to work just the opposite, but now I know what it does. I even noticed that on the dash display it shows the driver door open after two beeps, and it shows all four doors open after the three beeps. I'm amazed at all these little goodies.

^^ No problem. I'm probably just remembering it backwards.
