If you walk into your garage 5+ hours after parking your GS and hear an electric motor / humming noise, it is normal. My Prius does the same thing and I confirmed that the noise I heard this morning was indeed coming from the GS. Both owners manuals have the following section in the forward:

Noise from under vehicle after turning of the engine
Approximately 5 hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.

 

Good to know. I've heard this noise as well and I thought I was going crazy at first then I found out it was coming from the GS.

Heard humming noise twice this week for the first time in my garage about 5-6 hours after shutting off engine. Glad to read what it is and reading about it in manual on page 8. Dealer said that they did not know and bring car in. They do not read the manual.

Thank you for the info! I have a 2013 GS 350. This morning, I heard the humming noise and was worried something was wrong with my car. I called the Lexus service dept., and the service rep said the noise is normal. I did a goole search to verify and found this forum. I was relieved! Perhaps I'll read my owner's manual.

 

You guys are not as lucky as I am. I get entertained as early as start-up with my 2013 RX350.
And it usually lasts 10-15 minutes until it fades away. The Tach. acts like a frequency meter as changes in RPM's follow the ups and downs of the pitch. As a Musician, I get a kick out of trying to sing in harmony (3rd's) with the Groan/Hum..
My Service Tech. claims that the start-up sound is normal but I still don't understand why it stops once it warms up.

 

Can you point me to where exactly in the manual that section is please?
