The new IS... Nice but disappointing
The Ford 2.7L EcoBoost makes 325 HP and 400 pound feet of torque.
The 3.7L makes 375 HP and 470 pound feet of torque.
These are F-150 truck engines and are very dependable.
They have intelligent 10 speed transmissions...
The 3.5L IS makes 311 HP.
I am not saying these are appropriate for the IS, but this is 2020. High tech sells and ultimately rules.
I guess I expected more...
Go big or go home.

I don't really have any problem with the new IS except the exhausts. Those exhausts are weak and not aggressive or sporty enough. Looks like the same exhausts I see on the XSE RAV 4 unacceptable. I've seen the new IS compared to the new Acura sedan and the Acura just looks better with aggressive sport look. I love Lexus and think they have done great job for a long time and continue to do but they cannot get complacent. Make great sedans and great crossovers. Be great at what you produce. Lexus should not be sharing similar exhaust looks as Toyota. So think outside the box and continue to make beautiful, sporty, reliable cars.

"If there’s any question about the
performance-minded nature of each vehicle, look no further than their 0-60 times, as the IS 350 RWD
covers the ground in 5.6 seconds while the IS 350 AWD goes from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds."
Dont get me wrong, that is plenty for the street. My GS is no better and I sold a 3.5 second 0-60 car for my GS but they need to realize where it is on par with the buyers that actually care about 0-60 when they cross shop. It is what it is, but it if were me, I would have edited that part out and let the customer experience the drive rather than start out with the numbers.
As to your comment above, I feel that Lexus needs to meet a certain price point and there has to be a compromise somewhere. Ford has some nice engines and transmissions but the fit and finish (and maybe reliability?) is not on par. I will gladly trade a bit of tech for the excellent interior quality and dependability. If you want it all, then the price point goes up significantly.
Money is cheap these days so many wont mind borrowing more for a solution that has everything but I am a cash buyer so Lexus represents a huge value to me.

Lexus will not spend on developing bigger or more powerful engines. They will instead deploy their dynamic force engines with or without the hybrid attached.
All Lexus lineups will have these engines and the old 3.5L v6s will have its production stopped soon.

I love the 8AR-FTS, would be a shame to see it go so soon.

The TLX-S is expected to have around 400hp out of a 3.0 turbo. The IS is a direct competitor to the TLX. At least the TLX is 100% new. This IS, isn’t as new as Lexus made it out to be. I went from Acura to Lexus never planning to go back to Hondas and it really is a let down considering some of us like the GS more and have no choice but to “upgrade” to an IS later on.
Since Lexus is killing the GS I’ll most likely keep my current but if anything happens to it I’m probably switching brands. The IS to me could never replace my GS for size alone. Genesis has my eye currently
It’s funny to see people defend the IS because power isn’t everything & this engine has been proven to last. While this is true, you have to realize that they consider this a compact luxury sport sedan therefore it needs to compete with other sport sedans.
Honestly this car isn’t intended for those who don’t care about 0-60 or performance, BUT of course people like to have the sporty looks without the actual sporty drive. That’s fine. What Lexus needs to do is keep an engine option to please those who just want the look of the IS without “unnecessary” power, and ALSO have an engine option that pleases those that this car is truly intended for & I think the twin turbo would be perfect. To succeed, you have to give consumers options because it’s obvious we don’t all want the same thing.
Can’t bash people for wanting to have fun in a car that is supposed to be fun.
The fastest car I’ve owned (Infiniti Q60 3.0t) was not the most fun to drive IMO, it’s actually my GS with my Volvo S60 turbo 5-cyl right behind it so I agree that power is not everything, but Lexus needs more than what the IS offers if they truly want to keep their enthusiast customers happy.

If and when the GS ends why would you settle for an IS? Rumor has it that the ES will replace the GS. Lexus is going to add AWD option to the ES model. If the GS is gone Lexus is going to have to make sure the ES is drop dead flawless.
I like how the exterior of the new IS looks, but the interior is a different story. The new circular vents don't match the rectangular vents in the middle and I also hate how the new infotainment screen just pop up in the middle out of place. Other than that, put the RCF/GSF V8 and call it IS500 or new ISF and people will get excited
I have a 2013 GS 450h. So with that said, I enjoy my car. Wash and wax it regularly and it shines (Platinum color). As I have read these forums, it seems that some of you value your GS like it is a deity. As in it makes you feel worthy of being alive and special. Not making fun of you, but it is just a car. What do you do with these cars that you would not do in a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, or Hyuandai Sonata. Not insulting anyone, but what makes this car special as it can’t be that great because it is being discontinued by Lexus. I guess I could say the same for the Lexus LS. Sorry, I am not a Lexus snob, though I do like my Lexi.

For me personally, the GS blends practically with performance very well plus all I have to do is oil changes, brakes, & tires. I drive well over 20k miles a year since I travel a lot so a car to me is more than just a mode of transportation. It’s important I’m comfortable & happy with what I drive while also satisfying my performance crave. I love the option of having fun on twisty back roads, hauling thru snow with ease, or driving with family/friends in my car sitting comfortably.

They should make a slightly bigger version with that styling and call it a GS.
