And his beeping car caught the attention of someone that opened his trunk and located the key fob...and is now happily driving around in a GS 350 like he stole it...because he did steal it - with the help (of course) of finding the key fob. Beep - beep!!!
Just tested my 2012, the boot just beeps. Do you put your experience down to a malfunction with the auto boot function rather than the car's logic?
My guess is his is a 3GS, and yours is a 4GS. The 4GS was sold in North America in 2012 as model year 2013. I believe other parts of the world got the 4GS as model year 2012.

He's in Hong Kong and the 4GS started production in 2011 so it's likely he has a 4GS. Not sure which side of the road, it was under British rule.
