I’ve been using my iPhones for almost six years now with my 2013 GS, with no issues.

Recently I’ve started using text messaging on the phone, but in the car, the “Messages” button is grayed out, and I can’t figure out why. I’ve gone through the menus and turned on all the messaging options including notifications, and recycled the Bluetooth connection. The telephone part works just fine.

UPDATE
I looked at “Bluetooth” under “Settings”, tapped the little circled “i” on the CAR MULTIMEDIA entry, to see that “Show Notifications” was OFF. I turned it ON, and now the “Messages” button is no longer grayed out - it takes me to a list of messages, but there are none, even though the phone has messages. I have yet to receive any messages, since the connection.

Any ideas? I’m using an iPhone 8, running iOS 12 (had problem with iOS 11.4 as well)

You'll just have to wait until someone sends you a new message. It will never access old messages received.

Well, I did get someone to text me in the car. Unfortunately, the car didn’t respond in any way. The alert came only on my iPhone. Note that the iPhone was linked via Bluetooth to the car, and incoming calls were processed correctly. It seems like the texting function never establishes a link to the car.

Any ideas??

Every time Apple does an IOS update this happens.. While the phone is connected to the car go to settings (on your phone) select Bluetooth..select the CarAccessorySystem option then turn on Show Notifications..for some reason whenever they do a SW update it turns this feature off.
