Thinking about purchasing a 2016+ GS but seeing that the new 2019 ES is now available with F-Sport, would it be wiser to wait for that instead? I know RWD vs FWD and the styling is the main difference. What made you choose the GS over other choices?

I came across a 2016 low miles 450H here for $48k but both the 3rd party car dealer and carfax is extremely questionable. Maybe there will be a fire sale for the 2018s if it really does get discontinued?

 

Drove the current generation 6ES quite a few times (had them as loaners). They are very soft, very smooth and well appointed for the price. Its a super cushy, isolated from the road kinda car and I didn't like the FWD when it came to accelerating and turns. I picked the GS because it was more upscale, has a unique look and handles extremely well - almost feels smaller than it is sometimes.

The GS also rides a bit stiffer overall but its a viable trade-off in my book for the way the car performs. I really doubt that the F-Sport ES will bring significant performance enhancing characteristics to the line...its nice that its offered though since it adds a sportier flare to the car (to me the F-Sport ES is like the new Camry SE and its quad-exhaust and bigger wheels - all really just for looks).

I think you should wait to test drive the new ES and then make your decision. I personally don't think I could own an ES because of how disconnected I feel from the road when I feel like doing a bit of spirited driving

 

I own the current generation ES. But having driven the GS many times, I can say that GS is on an another level in terms of pure status, exclusiveness, Luxury and chassis.

 

I would still wait to test the new ES... It might be just what you need. I'm a hard core rwd, I'd never will drive an ES

 

Or go custom order a gs in July so it’ll be here for December to remember and if they d/c you have a choice between your custom order or the new es lol

 

Completely different cars. The ES got nearly the same power now but floor it out of a turn with a ES and all you will hear is tire squeal while you understeer and go nowhere. Body roll not nearly as bad as previous generations but its still pretty much a boat and nothing like the GS.

It's a nice car, just not for me.

If you prioritize comfort, like riding on a cloud and don't care for handling, then pick the ES.

 

This. Speed on a turn and you will understeer like no tomorrow. I got it as a loaner and hated it. But I did love how soft the ride was. Then again I am on 19" low profile tires on my GS so the ride is going to be rough compared to 17" and 18" ES wheels.

 

In practical terms.... I always describe the difference like this....

If you hit a dry highway offramp going 60 in a GS the experience will be described as kinda fun.

Do the same in an ES and the experience, if you're not prepared for it, will be best described as partially or wholly terrifying. the ES is a nice, comfortable, car but it still is nothing more than a "camry on
styling steroids. "

I seen a few reviews on YouTube they did redesigned the car from the inside out not sure if the chassis changed from last year. the F-Sport model is petty sexy from what I can see. Have we confirmed the GS is dead for 2019 in the Us? is the question.

 

I'm quite taken with the new ES. Much improved inside and out, with the new platform and stronger engine. They really nailed the styling, in my opinion.

However, it's still the kind of car my wife would love but would leave me wanting for something more. I just really don't want to go back to a FWD/transverse mounted engine car. One year left on my GS lease and I have no idea what I'm going to do when it ends.

 

I thought they were doing special 10yr anniversary editions of all the F models. Seems to hold that they'll continue the GS at least for 1 more year, in the US and Japan.

 

Strangely enough, the Lexus website now has the 2019 GS F on there, but the regular GS is still 2018. I do think there will be a 2019 GS350 and if there is, I may just do that when the lease is up on my 2015. That may be my last chance to get another GS.

 

I would not pay 48K for a used vehicle unless it was some really expensive rare top of the line vehicle. You can find non hybrid 2014-2016's for good prices now, why spend so much on a hybrid especially when carfax and dealer are questionable. Why do you want the hybrid especially if you are considering a ES F sport?

It depends on what you are looking for, sporty, fuel economy, etc. I think if you are okay with buying/owning a ES then you should probably choose the ES, I think many GS owners or those interested in them are the types who would not want a ES and have no interest in buying or owning one but if you want one you can get a ES for much less and they are similar in many ways.

 

It appears that the 2019 ES F Sport with be RWD.

 

there's no way. If that were actually the case that would have been one of the first things announced. we'll know for sure in a week when all the reviewers are allowed to release their videos but thats a pretty big marketing mistake. If that's your photo I hope you looked in the back and saw the non-existent transmission tunnel.
