If you want to know the shift points (RPMs & ground speed) for the 6-speed and 8-speed GS 350 here they are:

Below are ground speeds at 6,500 RPM engine redline for all 6 gears (RWD - A760E 6-Speed Automatic):
(*Speed limiter is electronically governed at 142 MPH preventing max speed of ~170 MPH • **Engine will not reach redline in 5th or 6th gear)

1st Gear:
Tire Size: 265/35 x 19" = 82.6" Circumference
Final Drive Gear: 3.615

He must be Sarcastic here. WOT (pedal all the way down ) is a good way to clear the engine of carbon buildup. The car was designed so you can do WOT, it WILL NOT destroy the engine at all. It will destroy your beautiful MPG higher numbers but it is extremely fun .
You haven't really driven your car yet if you haven't been doing it.

Also, to this person who wrote that statement, have you even looked to see where your cars powerband is in reasonre to your RPM? Do you think your getting maximum power at 3500/4000? We have Naturally Asperated (NA) Engines that need to be revved high to get their true performance ( turbo things reach their peak performance way lower, especially torque in the 2000s range).

So OP, next time you're in the car WITHOUT your wife and on the highway ( or wherever safe). Try switching to manual mode and start using your paddle shifters to put the pedal to the metal. Truly learn your car ( or just leave in Auto and hit the gas pedal 4/4 quarters of the way.

Agreed! I was going to reply but figured it was troll bait. For anyone that has actually blown a motor, it is a lot harder than you think. With today's computer controlled motors, they will protect the motor. The simple fact that these tuners can raise the redline to 7200 is proof that there's a lot of headroom in these motors. With a 83mm/3.27" stroke, 8,000 RPM would not be unheard of but there isn't enough cam in these motors to run them to destruction.

Lexus has been infamously known as the guys who undertune their motors. These motors are so well built that even the Europeans are in awe of their reliability. Lexus and Porshe rank right at the top ( my source: The 24 Hours of Le Mans race the race where car manufacturers race their cars for 24 hours straight. Porshe inched out a win against Lexus to win at the very end).

A Lexus with a 7200 rev line is super common among tunes for our Lexus engine , and this statement is backed by hundreds of thousands of driven miles from current Lexus drivers.

Infact, OV tune has their tunes programmed to a standard --> 7400 RPM rev limit for the Lexus engine ( 3.5 V6 model). There are lots of people in this forum who have been using this tune for years now with ZERO issues reported.

Its quite amazing how well built our engines are. It's why our resale values are at the top of the line. It's why Lexus had tried everything to keep the same trusted 3.5L V6 engine since ... 2007 (gs350 and the IS 350 from even earlier) in these cars. They've only now came out with a twin turbo version which is on the 2018 LS sedan.

I already have speed limiter removed. Downshift all you want.

The beep basically just tells you to stop clicking the paddle (the car won't continue to downshift beyond what its capable of - its dummy proof, so to speak). I've also found that unless I force it manually to 3rd via the paddle, it won't downshift itself there (even if I push the little button at the bottom of the pedal). The ecu is designed for fuel efficiency so to really open her up you have to use the paddles. It's also a Lexus (ie Toyota) and an engine that's been around since 2006, so some occasional fun causes no harm. As a matter of fact, since I got my car the ecu has learned the ways I like to drive and is so much more rev happy than it used to be (albeit it's still not as fun as my 2008 IS350 w/ the 6 speed). But I love it. For those of you nursing your GS I highly recommend you open it up the next time you are able (wife not in the car, what have you) because you are definitely missing out.

It will downshift to 3rd gear 'automatically' at WOT as long as the engine's rpm (in 3rd gear) is not too high (e.g. near the engine's peak torque/horsepower) to be beneficial. If it won't automatically downshift to 3rd gear (in any drive mode) under those noted conditions, then something is wrong...

Your wife would hate the ISF, my wife says keep going so I'm thinking on banning her from highway driving with me

The top end power of our 2GR engine is very strong, not bad for an N/A V6. I've pissed off a few boy racers and old E350 dressed as AMG wannabe and some Ghiblis.

And u won't damage anything by flooring it, the car is smart enough to prevent u from messing up anything.

Parked next to an older ISF the other day and it was beat up and saw a woman driver came out. I'm like lady just hand over the keys u don't deserve this car! That poor ISF.

Damn! I bet she owned every othe GS I test drove before I found my current one. Some had under 20k on them and looked far worse than most cars at 10 years of age. What’s up with that?

On topic - Not a rocket, but acceleration has already got me in hot water with the wife twice and I’ve had the car just over a month. Got in the same trouble twice in our old GS 400, but that was over 13 years, so I can honestly say I’m having way more fun...at least when she’s not in the car.

Traveling at 80 mph I've tried it both ways. WOT and paddle. Spamming left paddle will immediately drop to 3rd and you'll be thrust back into your seat reaching 100+ mph very quickly. WOT will drop to 4th and accelerate to redline at a more leisurely pace (ecu trying to save fuel despite your defiance). Try it, you'll see what I mean, all theories aside.

The reason why your car (2016 GS 350 with 8-speed transmission) will not engage 3rd gear when going WOT at 80 mph in Drive is because (as I stated) the engine's rpm (in 3rd gear at 80 mph) is considered by the ECU to be too high (i.e. near the engine's peak torque/horsepower) to be beneficial. In fact, at 80 mph engaging 3rd gear will rev the engine to 5,600 rpm, which is only 900 rpms before redline (and upshifting), which is too high in the rpm range and therefore is not beneficial for acceleration.

From an acceleration standpoint it is far more beneficial at 80 mph to engage 4th gear at WOT in Drive (which is what your ECU automatically did), which revs the engine to 4,400 rpm and provides 2,100 rpms of near peak torque and horsepower before redlining (and upshifting). Your car's ECU did a perfect job of automatically selecting the correct gear (4th gear) when going WOT at 80 mph in Drive. Manually engaging 3rd gear at 80 mph (at 5,600 rpms) with only 900 rpms remaining before redlining (and upshifting) was not the best choice...

I would have just dropped in a super charger. If only it was carb legal.

I'm planning on getting the Supercharger from RR Racing sometime in November. Hopefully I don't have any unexpected bills.

I hope this isn't a serious comment...

possible the engine has a fuel cut to prevent damage but valve float is a real thing!
