I had this issue on my 2013 GS F sport about 2 weeks ago. I had a vinyl overlay which did not cause any issues when I installed it. It did have some cracks around the vinyl where the sensors were so I figured it was that causing it to show the errors. I even brought it to the dealership thinking they will likely tell me its the vinyl but worth a shot to see what they would say. I made sure I cleaned the sensors real good before I brought it in to them so I can at least rule that out as an issue. They sent me off the first time saying its the vinyl. A week later I ended up taking the vinyl off because I plan on getting it painted this summer anyways, to see if that was in fact the cause and it was not. I brought it back to Lexus for the second time and it was a faulty middle right sensor and Lexus replaced it for free.

im experiencing this issue right now on my 2015 RC. Exact sane symtpoms. Took it into Lexus to have sensor replaced and they're claiming it is not. They want to take both bumpers off and see what' causing it. Says an error code of U0233 is coming up "lost communication with spot obstacle detection control" want to charge me $870 Just to figure out the problem. Told them eat a d!$%. It' still sitting there until.i can get a better answer here. Please help anyone! I did noticed 1 sensor had a rock Nick on it and pointed that out. Stealerships man....

stealerships? lol, love it. I had that theft business going on with the Infiniti I had and the Infiniti dealership I went to. they all seem to be the same. Dave IS250, I'm surprised you weren't charged hard for the sensors. Odd. Went to a mechanic and he told me to do them with the sensors I ordered off Ebay it would 2oo-300. He said the whole bumper would have to be removed on my 2013 GS but I heard that you could just remove the cover to get to them. Well, I won't be driving for a few months due to a tendon operation so I'm not too stressed but still it would be amazing to have the sensors functional. Can one access the sensors on a non Fsport 2013 by removing just the engine front cover or am I wrong? I'm going to check it out today on my crutches lol. Also, I was told that lane departure was not available with the night vision option on the GS. I wonder if that's true also? Damn, and I need to apply for other job positions also. Busy busy with the time off. lol

My GS is under warranty so it was replaced for free. I'm assuming you no longer have a warranty on yours?

I don't believe my car is still under warranty. Its a 2013 but I was offered a warranty to be paid by month from the dealership I bought it. Good question. I want to replace the faulty sensors in the front bumper as I was saying earlier but not sure if I have to take the whole bumper off. I saw a vid online thats for an RX that the owner only removed the top engine cover and was able to reach the sensors. I'm hoping mine is the same. Will test it out soon when I've got the leg cast off. lol

I am looking at a LS460 that put up that parking/sonar sensor warning on a test drive. Dealership said it was a rock chip on a sensor and wants over $500 to replace a $20 sensor, of course they designed it so the whole front bumper has to come off just to replace those sensors.

yes, i'm also worried that the whole bumper has to come off also to replace the sensor. Sucks. I was quoted as i stated previously 200 - 300 with myself supplying the sensors.

I went out and took a look at the engine and how accessible the sensors would be to replace. If I'm not wrong, it seems as if the bumper will have to be removed for the sensors to be replaced, not just the cover on the engine taken off to get to the sensors. Anyone try this or have any idea? i have the 2013 lexus gs and it would be a shame not to have everything on the car working although i can live with it for now. anyone have any thoughts? thanks

I'm pretty sure the bumper needs to come off. I had a sensor pushed in and I was barely able to push it back out by going under the car and taking a few screws off. I definitely wouldn't have been able to replace the sensor that way.

yes, as I said earlier, once I had gone out and checked the car, realized my 2013 is really restrictive with the room it allows to get your hand under the bumper to get sensor access. sucks because I can see the sensor and if I can only touch it and replace with the ones i bought, np. sooooo simple yet not and $300 later......... I wonder if i can access it from underneath the bumper of the car? hmmmmmmm.....

So an update. We took our RC to the stealership and I requested to have the 1 visably damaged sensor replaced. We called our insurance ahead of time and asked if it could be covered under comprehensive without any penalty of our insurance rates going up and they said yes. So $250 later they replaced the sensor I asked to be replaced and all is right in the world again. It' been about a month now and no more clean sensors warning light etc. The total job cost around $660 as yes they had to remove the bumper cover to access it.

Here is the part that was replaced. I made sure they gave me the old part so they wouldn' scam me. As you can see the damage is minimal and subtle, but apparently it was enough to cause that issue. The stealerships even said they didn' think replacing this one part was going to fix my problem, but went ahead and did it at my request. Dumbasses. I wonder if the surface can be clear bra'd to protect it from happening again.

there definitely looks to be damage there and for sure that can make a difference. Mine looked even less than that damage and after wiping it with alcohol and a qtip, nothing and i still got the clean sensor error warning so most likely has to be replaced. Good idea to call the insurance. I'll call them and see what they say. Never know seeing as I already have the sensors ordered from Ebay.
