Default Navigation System Map Update Options?

New member.

Is there any way to update the Nav System map on my 2013 GS350 without going through a dealer? Searched for this, but I stopped looking after 45 minutes. My search made me think that there is no other option.

I live in Dallas, and my Nav system map is functionally useless downtown or on the edges of the frontier. Road construction in Dallas is like trouble in the Holy Land. It has been with us from the start of time and will be with us forever.

Sewell here has great service, so long as you have a fat wallet. Would rather not go to the home of the $200 oil change and drop my pants for this software update.

The answer is no. A 2013 GS 350 requires that a Lexus dealership's service department download and install a map update to your Navigation system. You can expect it to cost ~$300, which includes an hour of labor. The process is for the service department to order the map from Lexus corporate's mainframe computers specifically for your VIN, which is then downloaded to your local Lexus dealership's service department, then it is downloaded to a computer in the service department...and then to your vehicle. The service tech must start and oversee the downloading process from start-to-finish to your NAV unit, all while the vehicle's engine continues to run. The whole process takes just under one hour, thus the one hour labor charge.

I live in Dallas also (actually Plano), and the roads, highways, parkways, tollways and Interstate modifications, additions and construction are constantly changing things...not to mention all the newly built businesses and residential areas. It's never fun to be lost as you are trying to get to your destination and your NAV shows that you are traveling in the middle of a huge body of water with no road - or not traveling on a road and no roads are anywhere nearby.

Don't need it and have live traffic alerts if you use your cell. I use screen mirroring and don't use stock out of date maps but get all of my music and movies as well.

yes! please explain this "Screen mirroring" I have a 2015 GS with the Luxury package and the built in NAV is the only thing I've found lacking in this car.

Looks like Beat Sonic has some mirroring hardware. Not sure if this is what you were talking about.

looks pretty slick (as does their Nav Bypass for the dvd player) No experience with their products though.

I wonder how useful the mirroring really is. Unless I can control the phone with the car's mouse then I can't control any of the phone's features anyways.
