Any new updates on these? Are they any good?

 

On different cars they have been fine. Didn't get a chance to install mine before selling the car.

 

Akebono pads on OEM rotors. Love them they grip well, no squealing, dust is minimal.

 

Interesting. My current OEM pad definitely outputs lots of dust. No squeals though.

 

The stock oem rear brakes I bought from the dealer are Akebono

 

I got an inquiry from another member, so I decided to share my feedback here...

I got the Akebono ACT1118 Proact Ultra Premium Ceramic pads.

I bought them in 2019 and did not have it in me to toss out the perfectly good OEMs, even though they were dusting like crazy. As far as I can tell, the Akebonos do not perform any differently from stock in day to day driving. The dust is non-existent. They've been on for 17 days, 700+ miles, and the front wheels look the same as the rears, very little dust. I installed the way I've always done... a little brake grease on the retaining pin, the edges of the shims, and a smear on the backs of the pads where the calipers would make contact. I used only one of those small packs of grease you get with the pads. Still on the original OEM rotors.

No noise, little dust... I do not hesitate to recommend. Cheers!

 

It looks like the OEM front pads are made by either Textar or Advics and the rear pads are made by Akebono. Does anyone know who makes the rotors?

 

How about under really hard braking Chin? Like from 60 MPH or 80 MPH to zero. Last time I had the Autozone brand ceramic pads, it couldn't stop the car without slipping like crazy. OEMs have no problem activating the ABS and squealing the tires. CA drivers love to do 80-0 all day long.

 

Have not tested under extreme braking conditions. Made a couple oh quick stops that felt normal but none so hard that as activated the ABS. I’ll keep it in mind to test that out next time I’m on the road.

 

This is why my pads were down to the metals in just 20K miles. LA traffic.

 

I see… you’re one of those always zooming up to the car in front of you then hitting the brakes… to stop those idiots from cutting in while in traffic.

 

Oh they cut no matter what, even if ur fender is next to their door. Now that I've moved out of LA, I think my pads will last over 100K miles.

 

The Akebono ACT1118 Proact Ultra Premium Ceramic pads were engineered and designed to be less dust but still stop better than stock. There is no fade at high speed. The other set they sell is the Akebono Performance®Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pads and they will throw you out the front window at high speed braking. Some of the Stock replacement GS Dealer pads are actually the Akebono pads.

There are some German cars owners that have reported that the original Akebono pads lasted close to 100k on their cars. Akebono makes the best brake pads. I have had both type on all my Lexus's for years, it's been long known here on CL in all the different model forums.

Ceramic pads can bite, but only when higher operating temperatures are reached.
