Looking at a 2013 GS450h that has the triple beam headlights, I am worried about the longevity of the LEDs.

How long do they last? Looking at the parts catalog it doesnt look like the bulbs are replaceable. It would be bummer to have to pay $2500-3000 for each side when they do eventually go.

I do alot of night driving (about 50k miles per year) and my last car 07 GS450h I went through HIDs a few times. Finally hit a deer at 60 mph and totalled my front end. 261k on the odo.

As far as I know the life of the car. There are some older model LS hybrids with led headlights with over 200k miles on it.

$3 - $4 is just the cost of a gallon of gas!

In all seriousness, LEDs typically last many times longer that incandescent, halide, halogen, etc. - 50,000 hours versus ~600 - 1,000 hours. You'll have to do a lot of nighttime driving! In fact - you'd have to spend 5.7 years of constant 24/7/365 driving with the headlights on.

I drive about 3000 hours a year at night. Im worried a lower quality LED might only last 10-20k hours. Should I email Lexus and ask them?

Looking at a 2013 GS450h with the triple beam that is 7 years old already and has 115k miles on it. Id like to be able to drive it past 300k.

That's a valid concern. I have triple-beam adaptive LEDs on my GS and sometimes I too worry about them going out. They are designed for the "lifetime" of the vehicle but heck, you never know what can happen since a failure can happen at anytime! Just be glad that we're driving a Toyota and not some other make.

I'm guessing that 2013 car has at least 12-15 years of your nighttime driving habit remaining...and probably a lot more based on the typical life of LEDs.

If you really want to know if there is a difference in the LEDs that Toyota uses versus typical LEDs then it would be best to ask Toyota your question. However, I suspect you'll get the same answer concerning the typical life of [all] LEDs.

Hey man this it Toyota/Lexus we're talking about here, they build their cars to last and this is not the first time making led headlights, they have been making them for many years with the LS. This reminds me of the guy afraid to use the power folding side mirrors. I did that retrofit for my 2013 and both of mine came from wrecked cars and the motors work just fine, you can even fold the side mirror the wrong way, put it back and it still works.

Bringing this from the dead conversation pile. What is the third “inner” light bulb used for? I mean one low beam, one high beam, one led strip, and the inner light is what? I am thinking turn signal, but does anyone know the type of bulb that goes in there? Peasodos? Thanks!
