Talking Installed: 6500k Morimoto HID's

Finally pulled the trigger on some new headlight bulbs. After 3 years the stock bulbs were looking a bit boring and yellow. Looked through all sorts of forums to try to decide on the brand and color. Ended up getting the Morimoto 6500k XB XenGreen D4S bulbs from the retrofit source. Install was a bit of a pain but worth every minute.

Here's some quick iphone photo's of the new bulb on the passenger side with the old bulb in the driver side right after install. Also one on the road with both new bulbs in. The cut off color is absolute butter especially on street signs. The bulbs definitely throw light further than the stock bulbs. I know the blue-ish light is 'technically' not as good as the stock yellowish color however the extra brightness more than makes up for it. Im told the color will shift after a few hours too, can't imagine what that'll look like.

Time to upgrade for some projector fogs with HID's...

That's great, nice work! Any pics or write-up on the actual install?

Thanks! Theres a few threads floating around with some detailed install tips that i looked at before i tackled it. I did have to remove the air intake box to get to the passengers side bulb and unscrew the washer fluid tube for the drivers side. Other than that just twist off the ballast and unplug the connectors. Unclip the bulb and install the new one. Pretty straight forward if you take your time. Let me know if you need any other tips!

Would you say this color matches the morimoto LED fog light assembly they sell? The color of those is 5500k. Curious to know why you went with 6500k instead of 5500k. Btw here's pics of my GS with the morimoto led fog light assemblies. I like them and recommend them.

Nice i've been looking at those led fogs, but still itching to do projectors with HIDs. Always though to tell from photos but i'd say the 6500k hid's would match pretty well to your LED fogs. I've got about 5-6 hours on them now and they are turning a nice pure white on the road. I went with 6500k because i read a lot of guys saying 5500k is on the white/yellow side and i was looking for a true white with a hint of blue, so far really happy with them.

Was looking at these exact bulbs, but the average 2.5-3-star reviews on Amazon don't look very convincing. Would be good if you can update on the performance for these after a few weeks. I would expect the color should get more blue as they break-in as well like any HID bulb.

Which brick and mortar car parts stores stock Philips or Osram HID bulbs in the states? I'm from Canada but travel to the US often, would like to pick up a pair of Osram's while I'm there. It is very difficult to find the Osram's here, and there are alot of fakes. Otherwise, I could get them off Amazon.

Would check out Philips on Amazon.co.jp. roughly 100 bucks for a set of HIDs, and another 100 for a set of LED fogs (that don't blind oncoming traffic). I got these installed on my IS, they are beautiful
Amazon japan shipped me my stuff within 3-4 business days.

Though they say 6200k, they are PURE white 0 hue of blue.

Wow, thanks for that, this looks real good. Shipping from Amazon JP is pretty reasonable too.

May I ask how did you order from Amazon JP? They didn't let me use my US account. Thanks

You can order Osram CBI from retrofit source as well as philips ultinon.

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/al...ect_restrict=1

I use CBIs in all my vehicles. I also have the philips LED foglights, both 2700k and 6000k. The 6000k can be found on pep boys website for cheaper.

Based on inspiration from the Amazon Japan idea above, I decided to check Amazon Germany(where these bulbs are made!)...

Low and behold, they sell a PAIR of Osram CBI's for just 83 EUR, shipped directly from Amazon, not 3rd party seller. Shipping is around 20 EUR, but still a hell of a good deal.

For some reason, it won't let me paste amazon.de links here. But if you search 'osram d4s' on Amazon.de, it's the first result.
