Not really finding much info on how it works. Driving down the highway, will it keep you in your lane without your hands on the wheel for extended periods of time? I thought I read a post on here that someone here was able to drive for a long period of time without touching the wheel. Do most people here use it or not?? I know it beeps or vibrates when veering.

 

It isn't like Tesla's Autopilot. It does not keep the car in the lane that well. It needs you to hold the wheel; it beeps after a few seconds when it notices the car straying a lot. It will even let the car stray out of the lane. This system just assists not takeover.

 

I pretty much use LKA along with Adaptive Cruise whenever I'm on the highway for more than a few minutes.

LKA on, CC lever-button pushed. The semi-vertical lane bars show when its acquired the lanes by going opaque and once the CC is set to speed and both lanes are solid, the steering wheel symbol illuminates to inform that it's assisting. Depending on how well the lanes are marked determines how well the steering assist of LKA holds. VA roads aren't exactly maintained/painted the best so I see that its constantly on/off but when the conditions are right, it works very well. It'll go 30-45 seconds without touching the wheel and provided the curves, will do a pretty good job at keeping the car in the center through the turn. Any curves with too much of a declining radius will make it turn off and after about 30 seconds or so, it'll tell you to put your hands back on the wheel. All in all, it is so minimal of intervention with Adaptive Cruise and LKA that it only one step behind automated driving; including the excellent proximity management and braking as necessary. I'm very impressed with it. Even the little car symbol (that represents you) has tiny little brake lights that illuminate when the car is auto-braking.

 

It's really meant as a safety feature - to keep you on the road and alert you if you lose concentration or nod off - than an automated driving feature.

 

I agree with most of what has been said. LKA is like a lane departure warning (LDW), and a little bit more. I wish it had more "authority", but it is what it is. If you take your hands off the wheel for more than a certain number of seconds (15?), even if you're still within the lane, it beeps and flashes - it looks for steering wheel inputs.
