Brake flush price ?

I emailed my service advisor so ask him how much it would be to get my brake fluid flushed on my F Sport since it has 42k. He quoted me $190 which seems kinda hight. What have you guys paid for this service. I'm going to call the other two Lexus dealer to see how much they quote me.

I asked my service advisor what the brake fluid flush entailed and was told fresh fluid would be added to the reservoir after emptying. I asked "would this be a power bleed with the lines flushed, and fresh fluid added to the reservoir"? He said no, more like a turkey baster suctioning out the fluid, and then refilled. Uh.... no thanks. Make sure they are doing a TRUE flush and fill, otherwise get OE spec fluid and do it yourself.

My mechanic normally charges me $100 for labor and I just bring the fluid for him.

Why do you guys want to pay for this unnecessary service? I have never done this on any car I owned. I know some manufacturers recommend this but there are various recommendations across different manufacturers.

It's in the scheduled service guide: 30k/mi or 36mo - replace brake fluid. Most local oil change shops will also do this service and they DO pump out all the old fluid and refill (normally with synthetic). Your quote definitely seems high, so I would shop around and expect to pay $100 - $125

Yeah I would want a true flush and fill.

When I had my Honda Accord it was about $120 at the Honda dealer. Maybe I should go back to them.

If anyone is in Upstate NY, burdick lexus quoted me for $99 for a brake fluid flush when i went in for my 30k service. Did not ask if this was an actual power bleed though.

MustangSal Oct 14, 2016 07:10 AM

I know it's in the manual for 30k...but it's unnecessary. The brake fluid system is a cold closed system; suffers no viscosity breakdown and only looks low when you're brake pads are almost gone. It's like paying to replace the air in your tires.

DIY!
equip and new fluid cost under $80 from amazon. took me less than an hour.
any future cars i just need to buy fluid which under $10!!!

I use my trusted Tech of 11 years at Toyota for maintenance on our Lexus's of this nature. Full brake flush was $95.00. :-)
Same price on our SC430.

Brake Flush

Brake fluid can absorb moisture from the air. It also can break down over time. The moisture often is highest at the lowest point in the system, the calipers. If you want to see if your brake fluid has absorbed any water, brake fluid moisture testers are available. As water accumulates in the fluid, the boiling point is reduced which is a bad thing. I do believe newer car's brake systems are better sealed but I'm not taking any chances.

Toyota dealership quoted me $95. Sewell Dallas quoted me $140. Also no sure if a power bleed is done or not.

kitra Oct 17, 2016 08:35 PM

Power bleeding.

I had a Nissan product, leased. I wanted the brake fluid flushed as I intended to "buy" out the lease. When I picked the vehicle up, the materials used stated "8 ounces of brake fluid". I told the Service writer in no way could the brake system be flushed with 1/2 pint of fluid. His answer is that "we flushed the master cylinder". So I bought a Motive brake bleeder and did the job myself. I did not pour the new brake fluid in the Motive tank as I didn't want to have to clean it out so I just kept topping the master cylinder. Hopefully the Dealer will really flush the whole brake system. Sometimes DIY is better.

I have 194k on my 2007 Lexus gs450h and it brakes fine. Original fluid.
