Default Nav Maps

I just recently purchased a 2013 GS 350 and have noticed the maps have never been updated. How often does Lexus come out with new updates for the nav system? How difficult are they to install? Thanks.

Every year but they really aren't worth it until 4 years, as they don't really change much.

Ur going to need the dealer to do it, which means lots of $$$$$$$$.

I'd just use my phone to look up new addresses and streets, which is very rare for me cause I live in SoCal and everything has been the same for the last 15 years.

Every fall the new edition will list by state all the new roads/streets that have been added. Unless you drive in an area that has a lot of road updates or you need it to look up the latest restaurants it's not worth it. Now if they would upgrade the OS to make it function better....................

Once they integrate Car Play all these old skool nav systems will be obsolete.

Automakers are afraid to give up control of infotainment systems. They haven't figured out how to monetize it like Apple has with their platforms. Way back Bill Gates got IBM to agree to let microsoft own the OS. IBM thought the real money was in building computers, yikes that was a bad decision. Automakers don't want to mimic that blunder. Tech is moving so fast that car companies will have to do something, Toyota just doesn't want to sell you a car once and then have Apple have all the control and money from selling you apps and software updates and so forth. I've mentioned it here before, why is there even a check engine light anymore? Just tell me exactly what the fault is, but then maybe I won't take it to Toyota to fix it. My service advisor has told me that we sell a car once and service them multiple times. They sell you a navigation system once and then Apple makes all the money later. That's what automakers are afraid of.

Thanks for the info. I checked my Nav and it has never been updated yet. Where we are there is continuous roadbuilding happening so will have to give it some thought.

I can promise you that those will not be on the updated maps. Unless the area is a big area such as New York city or Toronto I don't see them updating that. I'd wait for 2016 map update.
