I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but just haven't parted with the $280 yet. If I recall correctly, the Dealer wants around $425, but you can find the OEM upgrade on eBay for $280.

You (or the past owner) may have some of the Lexus Personalization Settings not enabled. I use the Carista app to change these setting and I really like the interior lighting...
This is a small sample of the lighting, but focused on the interior

Instrument lights restoring sensitivity
DARKEST / DARKER / NORMAL / LIGHTER / LIGHTEST

Dim interior lights after…
7 SECONDS / 15 SECONDS / 30 SECONDS

Turn on interior lights when you shut off engine
YES / NO

Turn on interior lights when you unlock doors
YES / NO

Turn on interior lights when smart key in range
YES / NO

Interior footlight (bright when doors open, dim when driving)
YES / NO

Turn on interior door-handle & center console lights dimly (flood lights) when ignition is on and shifter is not in park (P)
YES / NO

I ordered the kit and installed them myself. You would think that it would be easy but almost the entire bottom of the instrument panel needs to be removed to do it per factory instructions. Even so most come apart very easily. The only thing I did not like is that they give you tap connectors to connect them to the vehicle wiring which I never did like as over time you will have faulty connections with those. I opted to solder and insulate them with heat shrink instead. Give yourself 2-3 hours to install them correctly.

I'm also interested in having the illuminated door sill on my ES350 2014 model. Does anyone in the san jose area know of anybody that knows how to install?

I, too, have found the 4GS to have dim interior lighting. They do a fine job with the fading to bright/dark, it's just that "bright" isn't all that bright. Compare to a 2001 BMW 3-series and we're talking night & day -- get in one of those at night and you are in a well-lit car. The 4GS, you can see, sure, but it's dimmer.

I'm okay with it, and the light headliner of the non F-sport cars helps a bit, but it is a bit of an oversight on the design. The trunk light is an abomination, fortunately a simple update from Diode Dynamics makes it fantastic.
