Default Programming a "pause" in the dialing string

Hi Folks,

I have a 2013 GS Luxury. My wife's work number has an extension associated with it and I need the stored phone number to have a few second pause between the dialing of the phone number's 10 digits and then dialing the 2-digit extension.

Although the number that is transferred from the phone contains a pause (and it works when dialed directly from the phone), when I dial from the number stored in the NAV system the pause does not work. Is there a special character that the system recognizes as a pause or other way to program in a "pause"?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried a comma [,], which is old style? Or, have you tried using 'P', which is the more modern pause character? Some devices want the star key[*] to be used first, but that is usually a means to get to an internal pause feature, or allows you to add 'P' to create the pause.

I wish I had answer as I tried this many times myself unsuccessfully. It seems to be an example of Lexus going backwards as my 07 ES350 would accept pauses and even did "speed tones" so I could enter my voicemail password, delete messages, etc.
My only solution I came up with was to use Siri to initiate the call from my phone. Then the phone can send the strings with pauses.

Thanks bclexus and ESSearch for the thoughts. I'll try both of your ideas. I know that I was able to program in a pause in my SC-430 and was able to make it work in my '06 GS.
