Default Duplicate contracts in phonebook

I have an iPhone and when it transfers contacts via bt I end up with duplicate contacts for every entry. Most only have one phone number so that isn't the problem. I then edited my phonebook and deleted a bunch from the phone. When it transfers again, all the old contacts are still there and in duplicates! Brought it in to service and they said its coming from SIM card. Ok. My phone is jail broken so I got SIM card manager. Checked it and my SIM card is empty. They swear that nothing is stored in the car... Hmmm. Doesn't seem like that's true. When I go to options to delete phonebook entries the button is grayed out. Not able to delete anything. The only option seems to be to delete all personal info which I really don't want to do as I have numerous destInations that I won't want to lose.
Any suggestions? I'm stumped...

Have you tried deleting the iPhone and then re-adding it back to your GS? I had a similar problem with an EVO 4G and this fixed it without having to delete all personal info.

Deleted and reinstalled my iphone from the car. The same duplicate phone contacts are there including all the ones that I deleted from my phone. I guess I'm going to have to nuke the all the data and see if that works...

Default Solved- Duplicate Contacts in Address book

OK, I finally solved this one. Apparently when I installed icloud on my iPhone I chose to keep all the contacts in addition to the the ones that were synched to the iPhone. This created a second GROUP on the iPhone with pretty much the same entries. So when the phone syncs with the car its is seeing both groups and therefore has duplicates.

Solution:
Go to icloud settings on the iPhone and switch off the slider for contacts. It will ask if you want to keep contacts on the phone. Say NO. When this completes, you will have no contacts or groups on your i-phone. Next, switch the slider for contacts back to on in the icloud settings. This will then re-sync with the cloud and all your contacts will be back on the iPhone but the second group will have disappeared. Now when your iPhone syncs with the car, the duplicates will be gone!
