Default red light on key/remote

I was walking around my 4GS today with my key/remote in my hand and noticed a red light on the key flashing. I don't see this when I am away from the vehicle.

I assume this might have to do with proximity to the doors/trunk but I don't see mention of this in the manual.

Anybody have information on this?

You are correct; the red LED indicates that communication has been established between the vehicle and the key. It is not mentioned in the owner's manual. Other devices can occasionally cause this to happen which is why you might see it blink when it's in your house.
