Anyone else have water pump/belt issues after 50k miles? Anyone have a pat on the back for me at least? Tell me it is going to be ok, lmao.
Its gonna be OK Probably be your most expensive mechanical repair on the GS but just to mention, here was the water pump bulletin Lexus released back in 2020: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...83269-9999.pdf

Interestingly, the GS350 is absent from that list of models affected (GS F, GS200t, GS300 are listed). If your local guy could do the job for around $700 with your parts running you $180, you'd be all in for $880 which is a good deal. Does your local guy believe your water pump is in need of replacement?

As far as the dealer, sometimes they'll price match another dealer within the same area. Those "save 10-15% service specials" can knock down the price a bit. If you shop around diff't dealers, maybe you can find a discount being offered that can be matched. Sometimes even your own dealership will fail to tell you about their "coupons" or specials:

This is SUPER helpful, thanks! GS350 is listed in very top part, only 19-21 (lists ES as well). So I amy call Lexus Customer Service back. FOr now I forwarded the specials and bulletin to my service lady. My guy just looked up labor and came in at around $760 I believe, didnt have him look into it more than that. Dude is great and I've known him 35 years, but for only saving 250 or so (maybe less with the discount you found that I didnt even think to look for), I'd go with the convenience of dealer, plus rides to work or a loaner.

I completely missed the GS350 listed at the top portion in the first page of that pdf! Hopeful your dealership comes through with a little more off the top to help you decide if its worthwhile to go with them or with your trusted local guy. I think if the dealer can take 10% off, they'll still make a nice profit and it will be easier for you to justify going with them.

Sometimes you can't put a price on the convenience of a loaner and the piece of mind of a good service department that stands behind their work.

For sure, my guy is 30min south, in the middle of nowhere. Pretty drive, but dealership is on the way to my job, will drop me oiff, or give me a loaner. You are 100% right, can put a price on that. Well, I can put a price on my time, haha.

I will see what they say, then maybe call the 800 number back.

I would also check to ask if when they do the pump that they exchange the Coolant with complete new fresh coolant also. Some 2GR's had a tendency to eat Head Gaskets due to contaminated old Coolant. In that case it further cost justifies likely another $200 +/- from Lexus as a new Coolant exchange.

Come to think of it I might would get a new Toyota/Lexus Belt part at a discount some where and have that put back on also. Got to remove it, and reinstall it, might as well try to sneak in a new Belt replacement also - $$$.

I sent them the bulletin and they offered to knock $220 off the price if I go ahead and schedule. So good call. They did indicate they would replace the belt for free (labor at least) since they would be taking it off anyway. Found the belt online for like 38 bucks.

So the Lexus dealership is doing the water pump, belt and coolant change? Just curious how much they are charging?

The 1060 they quite was for labor only, but that was for water pump and belt. The quote with parts was 1350 or so.
I haven't asked about new coolant yet. Waiting for lady to confirm the out the door price after the 220 off.

I sent them the bulletin (which just described when to change a pump) and the 10% coupon, and they knocked the price down to $820. I asked if the coolant would be changed and they said yes.

Had work done Friday and they charged me like 80 bucks or something for the coolant, and when I asked why they didnt add that to the quote when I asked, they said 'sorry for the miscommunication' and took that off the bill.

So all in all, 820 for labor, 30 bucks for 'shop supplies' and tax, paid 910 for pump, belt install and coolant.
