Default Radio and head unit compatibility?

I recently bought a 2006 Lexus gs 430 with navigation and ML. I did some reading and found out the the radio and display for this year is bad because of the super low resolution display and no mp3 support. Just wondering if I can upgrade the display to a higher resolution oem one from a newer year and if the audio system is swappable as well.

The radio no, its best to match the same model number on the front. As Lexus used different kinds of radio brands. As for the screen/navigation not sure on that.

Maybe trying going to a junkyard near you, and ask them if you can test out their units before purchasing.

When I test-drove a 2005 and I couldn't believe the map graphics - like a child had scribbled them!

I bought a 2007 and the screen is better but the unit is still terrible. I upgraded to a Tesla-style Android unit. It has a few niggles but it's infinitely better than the OEM one.
