Default Brake pad question

So I got new pads and they came with these tiny clips. Only 2, so I assume they go somewhere with one on each side. I dont remember seeing them as I replaced them.

Any ideas what they're for and where do they go? The picture is not to scale btw. These are the tiny clip looking things in the lower left part of the picture, next to the retaining spring.

Thanks, sensor as in electronic sensor like bmw or the grinding kind of sensor?

The weird thing is one pad in each pair has a grinding sensor that is riveted on and look nothing like this flimsy clip. This looks like a retainer that fits on the edge of some kind but I don't see anywhere to clip it on the caliper or pad.
