Transmission or plugs?
I have a 2006 GS300, and last Friday I got on the highway and got up to 60mph. All of sudden, my RPM's revved up to 4000 and when pressing the gas, it did nothing but rev. I drove about 2 miles to the next exit, pulled off and parked with the engine running for a few (maybe 4-5) minutes. Got back on the highway and everything was fine. I went straight to the Lexus dealer and they said I needed a new transmission and ring work because I was burning oil. I have 175,000 miles on it and I got with 33,000 miles on it.
The transmission issue happened about 4 times in the past 2 weeks, with the Friday incident being the worse. Other times it would just get right back into gear within a few seconds.
So I took it to a transmission shop today and they said they got 4 codes from the transmission and 4 codes from the engine. He said the 4 codes from the engine were all related to the misfire code. But he said for the transmission to throw 4 codes at once wasn't right. So he asked about the spark plugs. I told him, 175,000 miles, original spark plugs, never changed. So here is where it gets funny. He said, change the spark plugs. He said in the RX, if it is misfiring, it can imitate a transmission problem similar to the one I had.
I went ahead and changed the spark plugs tonight with the Denso Iridiums FK20HBR11 (OEM). After changing the plugs, I took it for a test drive and everything seemed fine. Didn't really see a difference in performance.
But I was wondering, have you ever heard of this problem before? I searched all day today on the forums and didn't find anything.

I also noticed that my intake air resonator is missing. I have no idea why it's not there nor did I even notice it there or not there before since it is covered by the engine cover. Do you think may have contributed to my problem?
