Aftermarket Radio Dbl replacing Head Unit
Hi All-
I have looked but have not found a thread that addresses my question. So if this has been discussed before PLEASE tell me where.
My wife has a 2006 GS 300, non navigation. The car runs fantastic and, in an everyone wins situation, I am considering making this vehical MY primary car shile she would get something new (to her). But I wanted to repalce the Radio with something that supports the Android Auto function and a rear view camera. I figure any radio that supports Android Auto or Apple Carplay will have all the coolest bells and whistles.
Of course, it is not so simple in GS300. If I change the display out it looks like you lose the touch car information and AC control on the touch screen. Is there any way to preserve these in any system? II could be okay never to seeing the car information screen again if there is no way to preserve it. But I definately need AC control. Would the manual buttons work with the touch screen/head unit replaced? Or is all that intergrated?
What I would want in the radio would be a touch screen, Bluetooth streaming of audio files, HD reception, and Rear view camera. I would love the ability to disply google maps to the larger screen, but if I could get everything else, I could live without it.
Thanks for any suggestions

I have never heard of a unit to replace to integrated control unit. That's not to discourage you as you can you a pro design circuits to control everything. I just don't think it would be cost effective as you can buy modules that provide the features you want.

Try looking at grom Vline. I recently installed this unit and it reuses the oem touch screen. You will lose USB input but it allows for all the cool modern conveniences like spotify, apple car play, google maps etc. The best part about this system is that it doesn't look like it's installed from the outside.
