Default Switch from Ls460 to GS450H questions - Thanks

Hello

I'm usually an LS guy, had an 03 ls430 then upgraded to an 08 460L , and the car is great, the only problem is its almost too good to be a work vehicle , and also I want to buy a sports car again to have as a secondary car/toy, so I'm considering that maybe its time to get a more practical work vehicle and the gs450H looks good so far on paper.

They can be had here locally for what seems to be very reasonable prices, as well as they seem to get good gas mileage

My question is how reliable are they for the long term?

I'm worried about the drivetrain mainly, engine, tranny and hybrid batterys.

Is there anything I should be looking out for if I do end up looking into these cars?

Thanks in advance

If you want something more sporty and are interested in keeping it strictly Lexus still, I would strongly urge you to find a GS430, or GS460 which are the V8 versions of the 3rd Gen GS. The GS460 uses a similar (not exact) engine to the LS460, so you will have the best of both worlds. However, as a car enthusiast- I can understand why some people would prefer to keep the GS460 as a good day car, and not a "work" vehicle as you seem to have needed. Its more rare than an LS460. Pretty much a unicorn compared to the ls460, actually.

As far as reliability, they are good and the Lexus name is still on there rightfully. Compared to the other Lexus cars, they seem to be "less" reliable, but I would not say they are UNreliable. I would stay away from the GS450H unless the Hybrid battery has been replaced already. Also, as with everything else that has been beaten to death, make sure there are records of maintenance/services. The beauty in the internet is, if you ever run into any problems there is a plethora of information to help you.

Good luck

2010 and 2011 gs 460 would be more reliable than an LS 460. It doesn't have control arm issues.

Ide keep the LS460, the GS is wonderful but not as great as an LS. Plus I would stayaway from buying a used hybrid, value wise they dont hold there value as good as other GS's.

IMO the LS is the most reliable sedan lexus has, apart from the suspension bushings which the aftermarket sets have dropped in prices.

You can pick up a 3rd gen GS430 for $10-12k these days and a well maintained one will be reliable for many miles/years to come as it has infamous 3UZ motor.

I personally love my 460. It's got a bit less horsepower than the LS460, but it also weighs less, which balances them out. Bought mine with 16k back in 2014, and now it's got 42k, and the only issue I've had is creaking sway bar bushings. Had them popped off, greased up, and now they're as good as new. I've had several new Lexus cars as loaners, but I still prefer my 460 overall. Excellent cars, but just be ready to track down the infamous interior rattles.
