Default how to fix front brake squeal ?

This seems to be a common problem with the gs350. How do i fix this properly? can i DIY without special tools?

This loud squeal happens only under light brake pressure

sounds exactly like this....

Are your pads low? Did you resurface or replace the rotors? This seems to be a common issue on the GS and IS with the high friction pads. There's not really a fix for brake squeal. Maybe try some anti-squeal product but you would have to remove the brake pads and apply it to the metal backing. You might as well replace with a different pad if you're going to remove the pads. I think there's a TSB out there that has new part numbers for the brakes and rotors.

it depends on what is causing the squeal.

That's really loud.

Are you using aftermarket pads, or performance pads? Unless you drive hard, I prefer OEM pads, and you have to make sure all the contact points are cleaned and lubed. If you don't have shims, you can try applying some silicon on the back of the brake pads so it produces a cushion that helps minimize vibrations.

I had a TSB done for the front brakes before.

Not sure if they replaced with the low dust pads or the regular dusty ones, but the pads are OEM, and still have a lot of life left.

Other than what the dealer did, I didn't do anything else with the front brakes. My neighbor had a gs350 too, and had the exact same loud squeal.

Not sure if it makes a difference. My gs350 has this problem when it's cold. I swapped the sides of the pad ( I.e. inner is now outside and vice versa). Seemed to have resolved my issues but you have to figure out which side it's squeeling on.

I have experienced this often and use nothing but genuine toyota low dust pads. I take apart the brakes and grease the metal shims on the backs and the pins and this takes care of the issue for a year or 2.

Its your rotors most likely glazed, take them off sand them or get them cut. Reinstalled with new pads and lube the insides.

what brand grease do you use?
so you grease between the pad and shim ?

I just found this video by toyota... and it says to not reuse shims. So if I remove the shim, and can put it back on?
