2010 GS 350 leather ruined
hi,
my friend's 2010 GS350 leather seats are all ruined. He explains that it is like someone has ripped them with knife, specially the arm rest areas. He has contacted Lexus company and they are willing to give him $2000. But, he needs $6000 to replace them. He told me that he will try to get the $4000 from dealership !
I don't know exactly when the leather started falling apart. I know that he lives in Tuscon, Arizona, but he really took good care of his care(park in shade, leather treatment). Any idea as what choices he has to have his seats leather replaced ?
I have a 2007 GS 350 AWD which I have had it for a year and there is no damage except some stretch marks at the seat cushion which is normal.
thanks in advance.

I found replacement seat covers on ebay, but took months to find the exact style and color. Note that these seats are extremely heavy, so shipping an entire seat is costly. The seat replacement I did from a seat base that I bought (on ebay), the process was time consuming, but the end result looks as factory new. Good luck in your search!

I would guess it would have to do with using an abrasive cleaner/conditioner which ate through the polyurethane coating. A major mistake that many do not realize is that unless you have semi aniline leather (is it offered on the GS?), whilst under the P/U it is leather it should honestly be treated like vinyl for the most part. This coating also gives the leather its color. Semi aniline leather still has a coating, but is more delicate and noticeably softer.
It really comes down to keeping it clean and paying special attention to not use anything that eats through P/U. Regular vacuuming is quite important as well to stop dirt and grit from eating into the coating as well. Honestly, a water with a touch of Woolite works quite well. That said, the use of a quality leather conditioner does help as over time the coating does crack and folds allowing the conditioner to reach the actual hide.
Here is a good thread here that goes down the rabbit hole:https://www.clublexus.com/forums/aut...s-leather.html
