Quote: but a good way to check the alternator is to pick up a multimeter from harbor freight, it's about 5 bucks. Hook it up to ur battery. Before starting, your DC volts should be 12+, get someone to start the car, and rev it a bit. You should see the voltage rise to 14+. If no rise, you have a bad alternator
I used to work at Harbor Freight, an all around guy myself selling air compressors, being the forklift guy, and cashier. Lol, and yes they run about $5. Pretty cool budget-store... But yeah plus one for that multimeter idea. I also know a chill dude at pep boys that'll do it for free and have a printout of voltage output as well.

Yep....thats a start but it could display ghost voltage...voltage with no amps behind it which is why you need a load test if don't have an amp meter with a clamp. Just get it tested...

I've had two of them actually 08 and 2011. Loved them both. Other than that alternator issue there were no problems at all. My wife is essential personnel during weather emergencies, as she is a physician, so we need something 4 wheel drive for when she gets stuck at the hospital, which actually happened last year. Otherwise I would have kept it.
Thanks! Great to know! Back in the day, I had bought an '89 Maxima in '97. Had 119k on it and bought it for $5200. I won't lie, alot of things went wrong on it within the the first year (fuel pump, alternator, starter, thermostat, cracked muffler pipe leading to the cc, rear driver side power window motor failed, then engine began to burn oil)! But you know what...when it did run, it ran great! Took it to 240k miles before someone hot me and totalled me out! Though it had its share of issues, it was a fun car with pretty good power!
Just thought I'd share! Thanks again!

Quote: Just recently bought the car a month ago. This car has been giving me a lot of headaches. First my radio unit wouldnt work properly. That was a little problem to me that I can live with but now i have 217386198273123 problems. Just started my car today and my gauges are flickering. Seatbelt and airbag keep flickering on and off. AC says 32.0 temp and wont let me adjust it. Passenger windows dont work. Driver window goes up and down but isnt automatic anymore. I have to hold it both ways.

Anyone ever have or heard of these problems??
Thanks
im pretty sure its your alternator. all the problems you listed happen to me on Sunday and i took it in to the dealership and they just replaced it. 400 for parts, 900 for labor. I ended doing it there for peace of mind and i didnt have time to tow it somewhere else due to work schedule.

Definitely the alternator. Look up rockauto on eBay, the alternators are around $200 and get your local trusted mechanic to install. Cost me $375 total, the dealership will rape you

The mechanic I went to, did it without ^^^^^^^^^^^ 9drain coolant? discharge refrigerant?) doing all that. Although there's a bracket behind the alternator that's a PITA to get to and you have maneuver it out

Hey guys thanks for all the help. Sorry I havent replied back. Ive been busy with work and the holidays. I took my car to oreilly to check my battery and it was 100% full. So im guessing it cant be my alternator if my batterys 100%. This problem is on and off. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. I noticed that it happens a lot when it rains. Any other ideas on what it can possibly be? I love this car and I hate seeing it like this.

Thanks again, I appreciate everyones help

Anybody know what the problem is?? I replaced my alternator and its still giving me the same problem. Radio reboots every 7 seconds and my cluster is flashing. Cluster flickers to mileage, tire diag, and tire vsc.

Why didnt you get the alternator examined at an auto parts store before replacing?

To me it sounds like you have an electrical problem and that I think its best to drop it off at the lexus dealer pay for an hour or two of diagnostics. Its better then slapping parts and hoping they work.

This wasn't a flood car right? Check for signs of flood damage, under carpet is a good place to start or in the spare tire wheel well.
