I think you will get use to the gear hunting, when I first drove it I thought there were something wrong with the transmission coming from 3rd gen gs430 with 6 speed. My advice is to keep the foot lightly and you will find the gear you like because it keeps downshift too much!
By any chance, did you buy it off here? The red one in texas by "gottahaveit2" i believe is his name
Get the GS460 you won't regret it. The 8 speed tranny compensates for the laggy low end torque which is not bad.
Also, I doubt the engine noise is an issue for you since you were actually considering an ISF.

1. If i'm at a stop and switch from auto to manual, the gear is at 4? isn't it suppose to be at 1?
2. Even doing 80mph, switch from auto to manual and the gear was shown at 6?? Isn't the car is 8 speeds?

I've always wondered why it starts in 4th at a stop. The sport mode is the weak link in this car because it is so slow it feels like it doesn't keep up with my shifting. I just keep it in D off the line and let the auto do its thing. The sport shifting is more useful to me when I am on a road that requires manual gear selection or when I pass quickly on the freeway.

Nice! Grats buddy, The car stays in gear #4 because it'll upshift itself to gear #4 if you're at a dead stop (this is like automatic mode, but shifts upwards more sportier than conventional shifting).
It's like that as a safety precaution on the car. I don't think these cars are meant to mess with that tiptronic system anyways, but that's just me.

I had a 2009 GS460 and miss it all the time. Although I absolutely love my new LS, I think that the GS460 will remain one of the best cars I have ever owned. If you go through with the purchase, you should reset the ECU (pull neg battery terminal for about 30 min.) That way it will learn the way YOU drive and respond to your inputs in a more efficient way instead of having learned how the last owner drove it. In my head and from my experience this helped to alleviate gear hunting and improve responsiveness to my driving inputs. The GS460 has the same 8-speed trans out of the LS460 and I always seemed to think and feel like it was smooth unless I was driving it hard. The sport mode is going to stiffen up the suspension which makes for a more exciting driving dynamic; while the power mode will increase throttle response and feel while keeping the trans in a lower gear for more instantaneous power which explains why you were hearing a louder exhaust note. I love the IS-F but I don't really fit in one, probably test drove the IS-F ten times over the last couple of years but I just can't pull it off since its a small car (in relation to my size.) IMHO the GS460 is definitely a different car, but still the next best thing to an IS-F in regards to speed, and all around a really enjoyable daily driver. In my completely bias opinion, I would get it 
I can't think of any other car in its class that I would rather have that does everything as well as it does. If it had made any kind of financial sense to keep both my GS460 and get the new LS460 I would have kept it no questions asked. Picked one up a few days ago and contemplating doing it but just want to understand any added risks by doing so. Thanks!

Also, pulled neg batt twice for 7 mins each already when trying to update nav with latest software (hybrid). Radio presets were reset. I've read some threads that 5 mins is all that is required. Is this correct?
