:: 20" rims rear rubbing ::
Hi all,
I'm having issues with my new 20" rims. There's rubbing when doing sharp turns up or down the hill. The setup is as follows:
- front - Lenso ES7 8.5 et 45 - 245/30/20
- rear - Lenso ES7 9.5 et 45 - 285/25/20
The car - Lexus GS300 - 2006 - is at factory setup so far. As already mentioned there's a bit of rubbing at rear - pics attached.
If anyone could help me with solving the problem - I've been thinking of new Tanabe DF210 springs that will make the chassis more stiff preventing the rubbing or maybe a camber kit or narrower tyre?
Please advise.
Many thanks,
Raf

You don't want a stiffer ride. You may want to consider a camber kit, to push the wheels inwards and prevent from tire rub. Downfall is that your tire wear will be compromised.
If you don't care much, you could ALSO just shave your rear fenders.

Hey bro, I'm unsure why the rear is rubbing. It shouldn't be. If you lower it with DF's it will make matters worse if you dont fix the problem. The front offsets are to high. They should be around 38 or so.

Your front wheel offset is to high it should be around 38. the front tire size is correct. your rear wheel has the correct offset but wrong size tire. The rear tire your using is mostly used on a wider wheel than you are using

285 tire is not too wide. I'm running on 285/25/20 tires in the rear & lowered on Tanabe NF210, no rubbing issues. My rear wheels are 20x10 with +45 offset.
My front wheels are 20x8.5 with +38 offset, tire size is 245/30/20. No rubbing issues in the front either.
rafi, can you double check your rear wheel size and offset? it should be stamped or stickered on the inner wheel barrel. you should not be rubbing in the rear. if i had to guess, maybe your rear wheel spec is not correct (and hence the rubbing issues)

rafi, looking at the 4th picture you posted (the one where you look straight down from the top), that to me suggests your rear wheel offset is not +45. it may be a lower (and more aggressive) offset. with +45 offset, i don't see my rear tires sticking out past the fender like yours does.
another question: did you add spacers to push the wheel out more? just thinking about the different possibilities...

Hi,
The buy of the wheels was a total disaster. They've been bought from UK (I'm based in Ireland). I just double-checked with the company that sold them the offset is definitely +45 - according to them.
There are no spacers installed. There was an issue with front wheels - studs were too short for the brakes but they were replaced with longer H&R.

That would be the perfect solution. However I live in Ireland and here the mechanics can only change oil...lol
All tuning parts must be imported from US.

jack up your car or take your car to a shop and put it up on a hoist. check the inner wheel barrel for the wheel offset yourself, it should be stamped or sticked on there. you need to confirm this yourself personally what the wheel's actual offset is. because i have +45 offset rear wheels, and i can tell you mine does NOT stick out past the fender like yours does.

I wonder if you can take the back wheels to a machine shop and have them shave the back of the wheel 5-10mm

I don't think I can ever live there.
according to them? rafi, you need to confirm this yourself in person. don't believe what the vendor says, they can say anything so as to not accept any liability.

I mean it, Ireland is very poor with real machine shops and other stuff related to tuning. I started buying tools and I usually do the basic repair/maintenance by myself.
Going back to the rims, I'll take them off tomorrow and check the offset. Thanks a million for all valuable info so far and prompt replies guys.
