buying a gs question please help
Hi all
I went to the jm lexus and they had a very nice 2006 gs300 fully loaded all the options Levinson system navi everything. interior and exterior perfect and it has 96,000 miles on it they're asking 18 from the dealership and I don't know how I feel about spending that much money on a car with 96,000 miles its red on black really nice and I know its lexus so it should hold value but I'm not sure i wanna spend that much money on a car with that many miles. Id be putting about half down. any opinions?

Way too much for an 06.... let alone a gs300.
Mind telling me whats wrong with an 06? Aside from the small amount of USUAL problems on my 06 (dash rattles like other owners and struts blowing out).... I think 430 is indeed the least problematic out of the bunch. Aside from the 460 too.

Agree with everyone, do not buy 2006. If you do buy 2007 and up, the dash rattles will irritate you. Having had my 07 gs350 for a year and putting on 8k miles, I some what regret getting this car. It looks nice and it's a Lexus but the dash rattles and all the plastics(sunroof controls, rear view mirror, everywhere on the dash, and center console creaks and squeeks at the slightest touch or bump in the road. Everything else is fine but this. Since I got a really good deal on car with super low mileage with all the tsbs/recalls done, I just have to live with it.

Cool they called me back after I left the dealership I was busy but they left a message saying he has "great" news. ill call back a little later and tell you all what he says. I agree its costly but I've been lookin around and this is the nicest gs300 I've seen very clean inside out with all options. I'm undecided but judging by everyone's comments ill look a little longer. My original plan was to find something around 10k but that's a little short for what I want. So thinkin ill just finance somethin and put money down.

Most of these people exaggerate with the 06 lol, acting like its gonna break down and blow up once it hits 100km or something haha, bet some are even just bandwagon from a bad sentence they hear. My last 06 had more km than most of you complainers combined, the only thing expensive to fix from my own pocket was the wheel bearings, other than that it had 320k km daily driven in 4 seasons of the year.
Anyway you can get an 07 with that price tag, 18 for a 06 is overpriced like others said. But if you have some pocket to spare I'd say an 08, I might be bias because I like the front grill more lol and some other small changes. I think you should get 07+ if you want the changes, but if you can get a super good deal on 06, why not.

06's have carbon buildup issues, owners at 60-120k miles have been experiencing it. Thankfully Lexus has extended warranty to help them and rebuild their engines for free. None the less more prone to Carbon Build up.
Youll also notice a lot of GS300's with black soot on their bumpers near the exhaust

Nothing wrong with the 06....at least not with the 430s. 300 it seems is another issue.....
For 18K you should be able to pick up a GS430 instead of the 300. Better engine. 18K is way too much for a 300
And with 430 you don't have to really worry about the mileage as much. I'm not familiar with the 300's but there seem to be a lot of happy owners with high mile 430's which were trouble free.
But try to pick up a 07 or higher if you want the updated Navi and 08 if you want the updated interior and exterior (different steering wheel design, shifter design, bumper, etc).
If that really doesn't matter to you, try to get an 06 at a better price. You should be able to get a 300 in the 15's and a 430 in the 17's

OK... so, the engine on the 06 is on Lexus special warranty for many MANY more thousands of miles and many more years. No other GS in that price range is going to have Lexus backing it's engine if there were any problems. The GS430 has the timing belt service that is more costly that the GS300 will never need. It gets better mileage to boot. Of course, it is down on power in comparison.
Honestly, as long as the brakes are in good shape and the maintenance has been done... the 06 is a good deal.
IMHO, the only drawback is that it isn't as quick as any of the other GSs.
I just rolled over 99k in my 06 GS300 AWD, and have had no issues with oil consumption or blow-by. If the day comes that I do... Lexus is behind it. THEN free engine rebuild!
The brakes are a non-issue. You won't cook the GS300 brakes with proper pads, and there is no performance gain from using the GS350 brakes on it.
I'm just one saying yay not nay, but I just wanted to make my opinion known.
