A minor amount of odor can be considered normal yet if its quite bad you may have a plugged drain line to the AC condenser. Do you notice any water dripping from under the car while idling with the AC on? If not, that would be my primary concern. The GS has had issues with pinched drain lines etc.

A charcoal filter will not cure this issue.

Great advice! But I think you have it mixed up, the condenser sits behind the radiator. Evaporator sits under the dash board.

Personally I would use one of these odor foggers, ive used them many times. They basically kill any stale odors and leave the car smelling like new for months. In the back seat lower the armrest put a sheet of cardboard, and place fogger on top and turn it on. Youll want to do this at night so the chemical can saturate everything. This fogger will creep into all parts of your car, a lot of professional detailers use it.

You are correct ibidu, I had condenser on the brain. :-)
The only way to rid "a" car of this problem is to get rid of what's causing the odor. The foggers just mask it. First, one must ensure water can escape from the evaporator box under/within the dash as you mentioned. If it is draining properly you need to find a way to flush and or get some mold and mildew buster into the evaporator box. The only product I have ever used that worked was called Frigi-Clean by BG Products. However, its totally dependent on how well you can get it into the evap box. If I could, I would flush the evap box every spring with a water bleach mixture - if I could get at the box easily... Not the case for the GS...

Cheers

Default AC odor

my lexus dealer fixed it, just told them of the smell and explained the anti-bacterial clean of AC elements. They said it builds up mould and mildew and causes smells, since i had it cleaned smells like new.
It was $110 here in Sydney, ask the dealer next time your in.
Also i think it made the AC work much better its like a fridge in there sometimes, we need the AC more than heater here.

its common. its mainly from running in the recirculate mode all the time where water collects in the canister but never fully dries out. theres a lot of threads about it but heres one of them
