Default Can front fenders be shaved flat?

I've talk to a person that works in one of the reputable shop in Socal and he explain to me that by shaving the fender flat, it'll weaken the fender. Is this true? Has anyone done it?
Thanks

yes it will weaken the fender as that lip adds rigidity to the fender. the way i look at it though, if you get hit in the fender anyway, usually its going to get destroyed.

If you do it right, its possible to shave the front fender all the way down. I got mine shaved then welded and pulled. Looks stock, has perfect stiffness and clears larger wheels.
