Default Free Air Sub as a replacement?

Cliffs:
- Looking for opinion on Free Air Subs in 3GS's for "Subtle Bass" enhancement
- Examples or recommendations

Looking for a subtle bass increase. Currently have a non - ML system, which goes without saying on bass output.

Done a couple of searches, and pulled up a free air sub replacement with a external amp as an option. I have mostly been seeing this done in SC's. Not looking to expose my entire neighborhood to Jeezy or 2 chainz, but would like a tad bit more "Boom" than whats currently there.

I have also looked into the 4080(?) ( a little too much for what im trying to do) and possibly a semi- custom pre-build MDF box (similar to kind sold on ebay). I would still need trunk space for stollers / golf clubs etc.

Thanks in advance

You can find some specialty subs that are designed for free air, but I always recommend Image Dynamics ID 10v3 because it has a steel basket, has plenty of throw and is relatively inexpensive. Just be careful with the power and as a rule of thumb you can only run about 1/2 the power of the RMS rating. IB also does not need as much power to get decently loud and the trunk of the GS is sealed very well. You will also need to use some Dynamat or other sound deadener as the deck will rattle and vibrate. Be prepared as you are going to spend some time chasing rattles.

I think that you can mount it right to the rear deck. I had my 10" Morel sitting there and it fit fine and didn't appear to have any clearance issues between the factory grill. I never mounted it ther because I ended up making a 1 cubic foot sealed box instead. Worse case scenario, you can just mount a baffle board underneath and mount it from the trunk side. Either way you are going to have to trim the carpet in the trunk to accommodate the new sub. You may also have to bend the right trunk brace down as it is at a 90* angle just below the sub. You will see what I mean when you go to install it.
