2006 GS300 Oil Burning issue after 80k miles
My 2006 GS300 has oil burning issue after 80k miles now my odo is at 110k miles. I have changed my oil every 5000 miles, keep burning about 1 quart every 1k miles average. Literally burnt about 20 quarts of an oil with premium fuel. At 105k miles, I had replaced my bank 2 sensor 2 after the check engine light and vsc light came on, reset the code those lights came right back on. Check the code again, found out bad cat converter between passenger side sensors. The recalls has been done at 65k miles at dealer. I would like an advice from experts in the forum before I choose to fix the issue. My questions are,
What would be the cause of burning that much of an oil? No leaking on floor or bad smell. Is burnt oil causing the failure of cat converter? If I replace the cat, will it go bad again? Has anyone who owns 3GS has this problem? Please give me some advice to clear out the issue. Thanks. |
Karect0, check out post from March 13, 2012 "rough idle burning oil", and you may find your answer in the thread.

I hope your advice work out for me as well. Thank you LAGS300GUY!!!!

good luck on whatever you do. I think with getting Lexus to help on cost if in fact your car is having the same issues mine was, its going to be hit and miss unless of course you have a warranty.
As you read in the post I did not have a warranty at all and I was just very lucky that Lexus agreed to fix this as a goodwill repair, but nonetheless I still had to pay $565, which is way better than paying the full cost or continuing to let my car get worse. Again, good luck |
Glad I checked
I have noticed oil burning for the past couple of years. I've going in monthly to have it topped off and it's over a quart now. I remember getting that customer support letter about the engine runing rough and had that happen a couple of times. after reading aabout a possible link with oil burning I decided to check it out at the dealer and after running tests for the problem they will honor making the repairs. Ring set and pistons. They tell me 4 days work but parts are out 2 months so I'm waiting for the call to brig it back in.

Kjazz, is Lexus charging you for the repairs for the rings and Pistons?

What does that mean? Was it a recall issue they were having at one point?

You can try calling lexus care support see if they will honor the rebuild. If not you can buy some time by doing a top engine cleaning or using seafoam |

Lexus used to rebuild your engine to cure the carbon buildup issue. Your piston rings, exhaust valves get covered up in carbon build up due to a design flaw in the engine.

:)Hey there was a CSP on this engine issue, and you might still be able to get it fixed. Here's a video I made that shows your Lexus GS300 engine completely disassembled. You can also read the letter Lexus sent to GS and IS owners in the video for reference.
I had this done many miles ago,, but now with 134,000 miles I always carry a quart of oil in the trunk, in case it burns it. |
