Default Bad Bearing or something else?

I just picked up an 06 430 with just over 50k an I notice there is a humming noise that starts up @ around 40Mph. It sounds like a pulsing hum not continuous, I was told it was a wheel bearing. I wanted to see if anyone has had the same noise from a bad wheel bearing..? I noticed one of the rear wheels is damaged from what looks like a big pot hole hit possibly and it has a different tire. I'm thinking if there is a bad bearing it would be at that wheel? Input appreciated.

I do believe your answer lies in that damaged wheel with new tire. I am an old fart, new to Lexus but not to cars, and any time you hit something (curb, etc.) hard enough to damage the rim and require tire replacement, there is more bad stuff going on under the car and in the suspension than you probably want to know about. If bought from a private owner they should file a retroactive auto insurance claim and have it paid to be fixed first, THEN sell some poor unsuspecting person the car.

I believe the problem lies at that wheel as well. I work for a dealership an bought the car knowing it had the problem, I just didn't want them to tack on anymore money to the price of the car. I got a great deal on the car.

Ahh, gotcha. Did you have someone put it up on a lift and take a look yet? As a kid I ran I to a curb after overcooking a corner and bent the rim. Put new rim and car still drove weird, took a look underneath and had to have tie rod and contr replaced, they were actually bent despite no real damage to the tire, just the rim. Good luck!

If the car sounds like a jet engine and the noise gets worse the faster you're going the bearings are shot. It starts off as a ticking sound though. I had one wheel bearing on the front replaced under warranty - mine was doing a metallic ticking sound when turning left.

I had a ford before that sounded like a jet engine due to wheel bearings that were totally gone.
