Hello,
I've been in the market for a used GS 350 for the past few months and have been watching the GS forums for awhile.
So I finally think I found a decent deal on a 08 GS 350 with 45k Mil.
The Car is very clean, only one driver, It is not being sold at a Lexus dealership, so it's not a Lexus Certified car.
I noticed when I'm driving around 38mph-45mph there is a small vibration(in the butt) and the call pulls to the right just a little bit.
I had a third party look at the car and he said it's because of cheap tires.
The Dealership that is selling the car said the put new tires on the car (Dimax R8 225/50ZR17).
Doing a google search come back with a really cheap wheel($89.00/wheel).

So I'm tossing out a few questions here, hoping you guys can help me.

What wheels did the 2008 GS 350 come with (run flats)?
what would be a good wheel to put on the car?
Could the vibration be from a bent/damaged rim?
What would a replacement rim cost?
The rims are the standard 17" GS 350 rim.
I'm basically want them to get rid of the vibration or cut the price down to where I can replace the wheel/rim.

Dunlops Run Flats
what would be a good wheel to put on the car?
would say, Pirelli, Continental, Mich., Bridgestone and Dunlop those are the best I think Mich. is the best though. Pirelli's arent bad bad meet the standards, wouldnt say they are good for hard cornering.
Could the vibration be from a bent/damaged rim?
Yes this could be the case or may need a high speed balance
What would a replacement rim cost?
For the 17" those rims with Sewell discount is about $400 but ebay may have them cheaper

Hopes this helps.

Also make sure the wheels still have TPMS sensors.

HMM Runflat... I dont think they are for the GS350 option, they are for the GS460H because the rear trunk carry the large battery...

I rather buy Kumho or something cheaper tire because tires are not worth to me... They are wear and tear and the longer they go, u gotta throw away the tires and buy another set of tires.. I rather save money for not buy expensive tires...

Tell them do balance tires again.. Maybe the shop didnt balance them right... Tell them to balance them again or put them on balance machine and spin the tire/rim to see if there any up and down movement mean they have a bend issue...

Nope, actually the run flats are standard option on every Lexus GS, to my knowledge, my second car had it and it was a GS 300.

I think the words "standard and option" are oxymorons.
Standard would be something that came on every car without extra cost.
Option would be something that was available only at extra cost. Some features are not even offered on some models, even with extra cost.

I assure you runflats are not standard on the GS350. I would never buy them and would have a fit if they were. I bought 2 3GS cars brand new and nether came with runflats.
If they were on your car someone ordered them.

update
Ok, I got a call from the dealership last night saying they rebalanced the wheels and did a front-end alignment.

I took a test drive, the car no longer vibrates at 38-45 mph, it now starts around 62-70mph , and it still pulls to the right.
I thought maybe it was the road I was driving on, so I took it out on the freeway where it's all new blacktop, everything was smooth until mid 60mph, and the car would pull to the right in about 3 sec when I let off the steering wheel.

The vibrations seem to be in the small of by back/butt. I did notice the back right wheel seemed to have some road rash that someone tried to buff out. Maybe that rim is bent?

Can you tell if a rim is bent when you balance the wheels?

Thanks for all the input on the topic.

This sounds like a bent rim, I think one of the rims could be bent, or it could be the tires.

Well I guess you are right it is standard only on the GS 350 AWD and is available on the GS 350 RWD, and the GS 460. This is the Link I found.

So the vibrations were caused by a bent rim, and 2 bad wheels.
I had the dealer replace the rim and the wheels. The car drives smooth and wheel alignment is now corrected.
So I'm happy to announce I'm a proud owner of 2008 GS 350!
