Default Trade my 06 GS300 for a CLS500??

I'm really into sporty designed sedans and one of my all time favs are the CLS series mercedes benz...

Although the CLS55 is the one i like, i cant fathom myself getting into another car that will bring a hoard of speeding tickets my way (yes - i lack control in this dept :P )...so i'm settling on the lower end CLS500...550 if i can find a good price...speed isnt my concern

I plan to do the same mods i did to my GS...lower, front lip, staggered wheel setup with a nice stance and roof spoiler. not much else going into it. im gonna have my buddy's shop re-upholster the interior with the diamond stitching pattern..

any input on people who have owned this series vehicle? maintenance? problems? how it compares to the 3rd gen GS?

IIRC CLS's are the worst cars in Mercedes new line up. Stick w/ your GS. If I come across the publications again, I'll link them here.

I am sorry, but don't you think that diamond-stitched pattern looks like something that was made in Tijuana?

I have a CLK320 in the garage and had a CLS500 4 door. one of the best cars I ever owned. I put rims on it, lowered it, some subs and drove it till 250k miles on it.
if you are going to do the maintenance yourself and have some extra cash after buying it I say go for it. It is a much more precise ride that my Wife's GS350. I would highly recommend at least test driving it.
there is definitely a huge difference between German and Japanese cars. I personally like the German precision and refinement but the luxury on the Lexus sold my wife.
PM me for pics of my Benz or my old CLS or for more indepth conversation about it.
every used car is different make sure you do your research on that specific car, VIN maintenance reports from the dealer, car fax etc.

Not sure what your price range is but I looked at this 2008 CLS550 with 26K on it but ended up being out of my price range after the 2yr/135k mercedes warranty and tax. I put about 80 miles on the car and can tell you it is way better then my 2007 GS350. This car is rock solid and quite. I took it over a road that would destroy the GS at 25 MPH and took the CLS down the same road at 40 MPH and it was smooth. I love these cars and will have to wait a couple years till I can afford one and hopefully then I can get the AMG 63.

Look up Zimbrick Euopean in Madison WI. they have it on there website. they offered it to me for 42K. Here is a Link. The car is absolutly flawless and driven by a women who traded it in on a new one.

I love this "driven by a woman" nonsense that somehow is still pervasive in the used car market...

I had a CLS500, it's an amazing car. I still think it is one of the most beautiful cars even designed.

Easy to modify and tons of parts. The factory air ride is incredible. You definitely need to install links, super cheap and easy to adjust. Www.adjustableairride.com. My car is in the gallery 3rd page towards the bottom on the left.

I had someone call me out of the blue and buy the car, the only reason I sold was because it was silver. I only do white cars but made an exeption and regretted it...

It's a little sportier then the GS but not by much. Big bodies Benz are all similar, it's still like driving the couch (much like my GS), but in German cars you feel the road better.

Good luck, if I didn't own one in the past and I compared a GS and a CLS, the GS wouldn't have a chance.

One last thing though, you do feel more guilt modding a CLS!

Sorry one last thing, it's quite obvious that the maintenance and service on the Benz will be higher then our reliable "Toyotas"... Oil changes where $500 at the dealer and parts are super expensive.... But it is a Benz and they are very reliable. Your best bet is to find out that is certified...

I would say if you like the car then go for it but you will have some problems, honestly they will not occur right now but when you hit past 55,000 Miles you will have to really maintain it. My cousin bought a E63 and has had problems currently there no huge problems but problems that usually wouldn't go on a Lexus, just bear in mind cost is all I have to say. Personally I don't like the way it looks inside, I think the new one hit it spot on.
