im not trying to be a **** but its not negligence on the shops part, its on your part. you really have to research things before diving in. a 245/35/20 is a typical front tire that is sold with a 20" wheel package.

as mentioned a 245/35 will work, theres nothing wrong with it but it will rub slightly.

 

I have 235/35F and 265/30R and they don't rub at all. This is what I would HIGHLY recommend if you are using factory springs (as I am). The great thing is the ride is pretty much the same and the tires are only .5" taller than stock.

 

B2Auto sold me a set of MRR GT1's in 19". The wheels are perfect for the 3GS. ANd the recommended tires were 245/35/19 fronts and 275/30/19 rears. My car is lowered on Eibach springs and it was perfect!

I only got rubbing when I decided I wanted a more aggressive stance by adding 10mm spacers. But in standard form, they fit fine!

So in your case, I would blame the wheel offsets and not the tire size!

really? i was under the impression that a mechanic/auto shop knows what a particular make/model car can accommodate and recommends accordingly. when i wanted aftermarket rims/tires i went to a shop that specializes in that very trade, asked what i can get for a LEXUS GS 460. viewed the selection and purchased based on visual preferences. when my rims arrived they said LEXUS GS 460 on them. knowing the vehicle and what happens when different size tires are on is important when your business is rims/tires. i paid the rim shop full retail price to handle the technical and mechanical portions of my transaction. if i wanted to go ebay or craigslist i agree 100%, caveat emptor ( buyer beware ) would apply since its a very different transaction with no guarantee or warrantied performance from the seller. i would also expect to pay a significantly reduced price for the rims/tires too.

its a cold world if the line in the sand is on the consumer being fully versed on what they are buying before you buy from retail shop! damn tough love here....

 

That's strange, cause I was quoted 20" with 245/35/20 and 275/30/20!

 

I also have some rubbing issues. My tire setup is 20/8.5 front 245/35/20 and rear is 20/10.0 275/30. Sounds like the best size for the front would be 245/30/20 but what would be the best size for the rear. Car is lowered with NF210 springs.

 

I'm running 245/35/20 and 275/30/20, lowered on coilovers, and have minor rubbing issues with no fender work. Thinking about going 1/2 inch lower but that would definitely rub. You're probably gonna rub once you have your coilovers installed. I may switch mine out to 245/30 and 285/25 when I get a chance.

 

Everyone running a 245/35 on a 20 is running overspec tire the 245/35-20 is a inch larger than the factory diameter. You could always use a slight stretch to gain clearance and some tires have rounder sidewalls than others. I am running a 225/30-20 and a 245/30-20 these are pretty well stretched and grant me much more clearance and my driving habbits are virtually the same as before with no issues. Not that this is for everyone. Go to willtheyfit.com and play with the numbers it will give you a great idea of how different tire sizes on different rim sizes compare to each other. Also if it rubs cut it out where it rubs and paint it up to prevent rust.

 

I understand what youre saying. I just recently started learning what tire sizes, rim size, offsets and all that mean. I agree with you that a shop that you're spending so much of your hard earned dollars on should know what to sell you; in fact, that is their trade. I had ordered some Work VSXX wheels from a sponsored vendor here on club lexus and I told them I wanted the perfect wheel size for my 07 gs350 awd, staggered + low offset, with rolled fenders and nothing more. The shop actually spoke with someone from Work (no pun intended) and even though the shop didn't quite know the answer, they were kind enough to contact the manufacturer and get the perfect size I was looking for. As for the Jesus facepalm pic, take it with a grain of salt bro.. I think it was just a joke.. heheh

 

As for the rest of you guys, thanks so much for all the helpful advice. I feel like I understand what's going on now. My tires are too big lol. I'm going to try getting the car lowered as soon as I get my coilovers and hope that the car is still drivable. When the tires need changing I'll go with a smaller tire. Can someone explain the "stretched" tire look? It's an undersized tire that looks like a stretched balloon right? It seems like it would be bad for some reason.. but looks kinda cool.

 

okay not to thread jack..can someone tell me the best tire set for 19" wheels on stock... I'm going to get coil overs later on.

I always thought that the main reason you wanted to try to stay with in specs of the tires was not to damage the tranny, cause this is really my biggest concern, rubbing can easily be taken care of with body mods and stuff but with the trannys its a pretty big deal also having awd

 

You can run two sizes if you wish:
Front: 245/35/19 or 235/35/19
Rear: 275/30/19 or 265/30/19

 

'Thanks dude! i got my vossen 82s last week.. Now I'm looking for the tires..The cheapest I found was falcon 1135 with install. i never knew you can put 265 or 235 :S What you guys think which one should i go with? I don't know much here..
