Fog lights are very easy even for somebody who has no idea what they're doing. There is very little that you need to disassemble. There is a fog light bulb replacement guide I believe in the sticky. HIDs would be no different than that other than finding appropriate mounting places and wire routing which is pretty much a matter of taste and how thorough you want to be.

The kits these days are all "plug and play" and are hard to get wrong. A full system using separate relays to each ballast from the battery such as what comes with the XenonDepot Xtreme kits is only slightly more work and a few more zip ties to get the wiring cleanly routed through the engine bay.
