you need pictures of the exact pothole, close up and from distance, to show it. and also prepare to make a lot of calls and bugging and patience..

it's probably easier to just take them to small claims court.

Yeah I feel your pain, Ive tried to avoid every pothole in Boston and it's a losing battle and with these 18" rims they don't make it better especially when you hit them really hard or your about to it always seems my face cringes before I think I might hit a pothole or that's what my girlfriend says.

from my research, this is true with DOT (streets). As for highways that are overseen by Caltrans, they do NOT want you to attempt to take pictures of a pothole on the freeway, far too dangerous.

i was thinking you'd have to pull over to the shoulder.

so far, i have not experienced potholes in the fast lane in socal.

it's always the truck lanes that are the worst.

Damn reminds me of a pothole a couple weeks ago in Downtown Oakland..I swear you can not even see this pot hole! I would say it was more like a sinkhole! A little description of this pothole...There is no smooth dip...it was probably a good 6-7in straight drop then a ram back up. It felt like my side skirts hit the ground!

well of course they have to put that in the book. but reality is a different story, a lot of times it becomes two side stories.

the area where i hit the pothole - there is no shoulder. its just a wall(median) and 4 lanes. the only shoulder is on the right side of the freeway. i was on the far left. if they ask me for pictures im gonna tell them - ur gonna put my life at risk and allow me to violate the law by forcing all traffic to yield at my will for these pictures, correct?

oh, of course i am not asking you to stop there to take pictures! i would have someone drive and try to reduce the speed a little and i take as many pictures from far away or trying to be closer as possible

Just verified the other day that the pothole had bent my rear left wheel. Ordered a replacement from Sewell and will be installing / aligning / balancing the wheels soon. Also, thanks to the ideas here, I've filed a claim against the city; though I'm not necessarily expecting actually getting something, it never hurts.

I like to put in a recommendation for Auto Innovations in Milpitas. The guys there were friendly, professional, and quick. I also checked the price for new tires from them, and they're quite competitive even compared to Tire Rack.
