It's just a media player. You will lose visibility, conspicuously break the law (it's not like a cop won't notice something that big hanging on the windshield), run a higher risk of distraction and accident, and not get much benefit from it either.
my nexus one has wifi tethering

ur right..i should hack up wires and purchase DVDs instead...not to mention this is fully adjustable. i could mount it to the center console's woodgrain, mount it off the moonroof for rear-seat passengers, mount it off any side window for an individual person in the rear, and dismount and carry it around if on foot.

a custom setup for the rear passengers would be ideal. it would take a lot more fabrication to make it look oem, but would be well worth the effort.

Agree. There are a lot of solutions for rear mounting. e.g.

For the front, I would just mount on air vents. It's not like you will need your regular screen much with an iPad in the car since the iPad can do both navigation and music with the iPod integration.

I just think if you mount it lower, you won't obstruct your vision as much and put others in danger.

The DVD hack- as the name clearly suggests, is DVD exclusive only. The nice thing about it is that it utilizes the stock LCD screen....totally stock looking and low-profile vs. a freestanding/hanging screen.

agreed.....placing that Ipad in the front is just a recipe for disaster.

to further what batman75 said about mounting it lower....the only way i would mount the ipad in the front is if i did a custom install, similar to the youtube video below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSnIXfoSU6I

it will cost lots of $$$ to modify the dash and all, but the end result will be flawless and beautiful.

Can't the passenger just hold it? It's only 2 lbs.

Safety issues aside, I don't think this would work very well, even if built into the dash. The simple reason being screen glare. I have an iPad, and I can tell you that the screen is gonna be tough to see with the amount of light that you get on the dash during the day.

Looks dangerous, covers the view a bit too much.
