I have a car with Homelink programmed to a security gate at a country club. Can I use that car to program the Homelink on my new Lexus? It is not a rolling code, just a regular transmitter.
I tried it, by parking the two cars next to each other, and also facing each other, but the new car's Homelink did not seem to be able to receive the incoming signal. I know the instructions say to have the "teaching" unit a few inches away...
Where's the original remote control you ask? Why can't I borrow a remote from a fellow member you ask? The security at this place switched to a RFID card system and took away everyone's remotes. The RFID card works fine, but you have to roll down your windows (and get rained on) to open the gate. The strange thing is that I noticed that the old remote signals (on my Homelink which they could not take away from me) still works, so I have been using that.
No, I don't think that is going to work and I am surprised your homelink works right now - that may be just a temporary thing. If not surely you can get access to an old remote somehow. Good luck - I certainly agree homelink is better than a card.
i don't think you can program it neither, the remote has to be pretty darn close to the homelink
security feature to prevent what he's trying to do. Maybe remove the visor or mirror in the old car and apply 12v power to it so you can get it close to the mirror in the new car?
Is it possible to use one Homelink (removed from the old car and using 12VDC power) to program another by bringing the old unit to within a few inches of the new one? Has anyone ever tried that successfully before?
If that is possible to program one Homelink to another (assuming they are brought to within inches apart) then I'll do it.
