Def not safe at all!! DONT EVER TRY THAT...... it will ruin your car and cost you $$$$$$$$$ to fix....

I've done it and it's fine. Yes there is a chance it will burn and blew and all hell broke lose, just as when you change your car tire. Your lift could brake and etc etc... anyway, the chance is slim so I'm ok with it.

I guess if you want to limit this chance you can turn on everything in your car so all of those device can reduce the hit if there is a hit.

I'm curious to see how much "noise" increase when the battery is removed. If i have an oscilloscope I would plug it in to see.

BTW, how are you sure that when your engine is off it's really disconnect and protect from this problem (noise/spike/surge/etc)? Like your TV still get shot despite that it was off when the lightning strike.

I'm also curious to hear if any1 change their battery while the car is running and it shot their car's CPU.
