I think BMW has demonstrated that turbo powered engines can be smooth and quiet.

It was not too long ago that BMW pledged not to use turbos saying that it is just a cheap and easy way to cut corners in product development to get more power. BMW has since introduced some of the finest (twin) turbo engines such as the one in 335 and 535....
Fantastic indeed but not without problems.

535 is quiet for sure. I test drove one and it was not noisy. At high speeds the Lexus is quieter but that is driven more by the 8 speed auto versus the 6-speed auto in the outgoing 5-series.

335 has more noise but that is engineered in to create a sports car vibe.

Default Just got my Motor Trend Mag

Just read that MT wrote a small article on the GS-F... Employing carbon-fiber body parts, and the IS-F's 5.0 liter V-8 but with modifications to the ECU and exhaus, the GS-F will put out over 460HP.. ..Also, spilt rear differential and rear wheel drive..

Repost or talked about already, This thing should be a beast..

better be quite a bit over 460hp. around that number and i don't think the gsf will be able to square with m5 and e63 (specially coming new generations)

cf body parts, that does sound interesting.

More rumblings ....

"Chatting to senior Lexus sources 'off the record' at the Detroit motor show confirmed there's a strong desire to produce a new super-saloon that could take on the likes of Mercedes AMG and BMW M cars. Formal plans are unlikely to be formulated until the LF-A project has been declared a success by Toyota's notoriously conservative management in Tokyo, but there's already a head of steam building up in both the US and Japan."

"It would seem that the next-generation GS is the most likely recipient for the V10, as this model already has mildly 'sporting' genes and competes in the showrooms against the BMW 5-series and Merc E-class.
"We'd need to be able to do a run of 5000 to 10,000 cars to make it feasible, and it wouldn't be cheap. But with the LF-A we're just starting to introduce very high performance as a Lexus brand value, so it's natural that we will be looking at ways to develop this in future," confirmed our informant."

460HP is fine as long as the car is priced same as a GS460. If it's priced at a premium like the ISF over the IS350, then I would just buy an Infiniti M56 which has 420hp and is competitively priced with the GS460.

I have to say with the new 5 series looking as clean as it does and the reviews coming in so positively, the new GS has to be a knockout to take away market share. Since the is, es and rx are such high volume cars, I am afraid not enough effort is going to be put into the new GS

that's why they were speculating that the GS-F will stop the production of the GS460 which is stupid IMO

and NO WAY in hell that the LF-A engine is going into the GSF, it makes zero sense.

I believe some journalist misinterpreted the fact that LFA will be used as a study for future lexus models, but not directly as in putting that engine into rest of the line up

although with 460hp...if they're using carbon fiber/composites/fiber glass..or whatever other light material, wouldn't that mean that it would be much faster than it's 500hp counterparts? we're not hauling boats here. you could have an 8000hp car, but it weighs eleventy billion pounds with a 0-60 time of 7 minutes. maybe my thinking is off.

I'm just saying you can't sell a 345hp GS460 when Infiniti is selling a 420hp car at the same price, and BMW is selling a 400hp car at the same price. So the power of the next GS460 has to exceed 400hp, which then means GSF needs to be a meaningful bump from that.

I would say GSF has to be 500hp, otherwise they are just launching a BMW 550i and Infiniti M56 competitor, not a BMW M5 or AMG competitor.

Quick Reply: GS-F will arrive late 2011 as 2012 model (~500 HP)
