Brake Rotors and Pads????
Hello All,
I purchased a 08 GS350 AWD last year with 12k on it and now that I have 50k onit I need new brakes and rotors. I do need rotors because they were turned by the dealer before i bought it...why i dont know but it was! I dont mind the factory brake set-up but I want to go ceramic to get rid of the brake bust. I drive 90% highway...
What brakes and rotors are you using and why...also what do you think would be a good setup for me.
Thanks

whether you need to turn the rotors or not, it depends on its condition and whether it's still within spec. if it's warpped bad or it's already at the limit, then you need new rotors, otherwise you can always turn them again
WOW I havent turned a rotor since I was a college kid back in the early 90's. All your doing is prolonging the inevitable. When you have the rotors turned it reduces the mass of the rotor and makes it even less tolerant of heat build up. If you turn them all you are doing is buying time ( very little time at that), but I am pretty hard on my brakes. I am pretty happy with factory brakes minus the squeaking. There was a recent post on a member doing a stock size replacement brake kit. do a search of the forum
i8abmr - I agree with you regarding "turning the rotors" but they did it not me. I only found this out by looking up the service history on the car. Regardless, I have searched a few times and havent found much info on what brakes guys are running...the search function here stinks! Anyway thanks for the info. I'll keep looking!
The only time you need to turn your rotors is if they're glazed, warped, or grooved. The only time you need new rotors if is you need to turn your rotors if they're glazed, warped, or grooved, and the rotors are out of spec (not thick enough to turn and would cause them to go below spec).
No other reason to do so (unless you go with a Stoptech kit or something).
