The last time it was at a lexus dealer for any type of service was back in June 2008. Have the car checked out before you finalize your purchase.
Good luck.
Thank you so much for all your support and help thus far.
One of the biggest things that was giving me confidence in all this is that I'd be able to get an extended warranty on the car from an aftermarket warranty company called "Great Lakes Warranty Corp"
I thought I'd do a Google search on them and low and behold, I'm getting lots of web sites where people are complaining about how this company will find any excuse to not pay out on a claim. The have complaints at the BBB in Pennsylvania and on many internet message boards.
My heart just sank. I love the looks of this car and it does look like it's in great condition, but how can I justify going the route of getting this warranty from Great Lakes and feeling confident that if something goes wrong, they'll cover me?
Does anyone here have any experience with Great Lakes Warranty Corp?
first of all, i would never buy a 2nd hand car without test driving it, or at least inspecting the vehicle in person. i didn't realize you have not seen the car in person. there are too many "ifs", and if you put put down the deposit and find out later there is something wrong with the car, you're screwed. the ebay dealer is not going to come out and tell you what's wrong with the car (if there is one). he's in the business of making money, not to be your guardian angel.
the fact that the extended warranty is from Great Lakes is of concern, given the bad rap they have. like i said in my previous post, see if the lexus dealer is willing to give you a lexus extended warranty. if they say no, then you can draw your own conclusions on what that means.
has anyone bidded on the car yet? if the answer is no, wait for it to expire, and arrange to fly or drive down to the ebay dealer and check the car out yourself. if the car is bought by someone, well, there are always good deals somewhere else. remember, never buy on impulse (because of time limit, etc), it will always be the worst decision you'll make. you worked hard to save enough money to buy a nice car, now's not the time to make hasty decisions that you might regret later. 2 cents
Thank you. As much as I know what I should be doing, I think I was starting to get a little caught up in all this and needed that nudge from you to let common sense prevail.
I called up Great Lakes and they told me they no longer warranty cars for Canadian customers. I'm not saying the dealer misinformed me because they did warranty Cdns in the past and just changed that recently.
The car does have 4 bids and an hour and a half left. I was considering driving down and checking it out like you said if it doesn't get purchased before hand.
Thank you for your 2 cents. They might just be worth $30,000 to me.

+1 on Stormforge's Comments! There are way too many fantastic deals out there right now to be gotten if this falls through on you. Let it go it's course and if it doesn't sell, make your visit or arrange for an inspector to check out the car. You will nor regret your wait. What you are paying is not pocket change so take your time and you will find your future car!

You're right. There are too many ifs.
you're welcome! that's what CL is for, members helping members out.
I know that the car can be imported into Canada. I'm not sure if it can be imported into Canada if it has frame damage, but that wouldn't matter because I would never purchase a car that has had frame damage.

You know if the weather wasn't as bad as it is now here in Ohio , I may have just done that for you. It is about a 2 hour drive up there in nice weather but now we are seeing a forcast of 4-11inches of the white stuff mixed with sleet! It sucks here right now!
being patient will only save you lots of $$$ !!! lots of good deals in dallas....06 GS430 with 30K miles for $32K ...about 4 of them here right now at Lexus dealers in Dallas/Fort Worth TX...

jigga, this might be a good opportunity to take a couple of days vacation in texas and get away from the snow in ontario. you'll be able to relax and have fun, as well as shop for your next GS. and because the GS you are looking at are all 2nd hand, you'll have no problem importing them up to Canada. win-win situation.
Well the car did not sell on Ebay, so now you have all the time that you need to have it inspected by a pro to tell you if it a good deal. Inspections run between $50-$100 and it may save you thousands!

i'm not surprised to hear that. given the state of the economy, it will be difficult for car dealerships to move vehicles.
jigga, if you still got your eye on this GS, now's the time to arrange travel plans to personally inspect the vehicle, test drive, and arrange independent check up of the GS. make sure you get the seller to hold the vehicle for you before you go down. also see if you can hammer the seller for a deeper discount.
