So I was driving on the 14 fwy yesterday in stop and go traffic when all of a sudden this dumba** decided to come give me a love tap!!!!!! i think only the bumper got messed up, but i don't know.....what do you guys think? take it straight to the dealership or do I wait for the guys insurance to tell me where to take it??? here is a pic of my car and one of the idiot that hit me.

Sorry about the car, but from the picture at least, there is no significant damage. I think you'll just need to replace the rear bumper.

the trunk is working fine, but yeah there's a little stratch in the bottom. Although when I first tried opening it, it wouldn't. Maybe it was from all the anger of seeing my car dented, that I didn't properly try opening it.

Here is what I would do.

Get an estimate at your trusted Body Shop. If you don't have one, call your insurance and ask for a recommendation. Go to the Body Shop and get an estimate. If the cost is less than your deductable, then just pay for the fix at the Body Shop. If it's going to cost more, then you should file a claim and pay your deductable amount. Now this is in a case where maybe you caused the damage to yourself.

If this guy hit you, and it was his fault, as it appears by this scenario, then I would follow up with this guy's insurance, using his info. Is there a police report? You may not have to pay a penny because this guy's insurance claim will pay for the damages. You'll need to deal with this dude's insurance 100%. Either way, go get the estimate with your Body Shop first, and your pictures compared with your estimate to this other guy's insurance company will result in the insurance company cutting a check to pay for it. The car will be good as new!

agree with Tap. deal with his insurance, but get your own insurance company to deal with them on your behalf. and get your own estimates. even if you have to also take it a shop that his company has on an approved list. if the police were involved, you should be in the clear. since he hit you from behind, he will be at fault even if he claims you stopped suddenly. good luck.
