I am confused as to why an awd car cannot be modded? What about all the evos, stis, and in the near future all the GTR's that will be getting modified? Can someone fill me in why the GS is an exception?
I think he means mods like dropping/lowering it and running staggered. There are no springs made for the AWD GS (yet). There are only RWD springs made for the GS. There are some members who are using RWD springs and no problem but i konw there were some issues with more vibrations? Also running staggered with an AWD risks damage, but i know you can run the staggered look with the bigger lip in the back but the same width rim.

it's not that it can't be modded, it's due to lack of parts, suspension manufactures are reluctant or very slowly rolling out springs/coils for AWD vehicles, now, why would people want to lower an AWD is a whole other issue, but that's where we stand now
people have success lowering their AWD with RWD springs and have no problem, some just don't want to take the risk
running staggered rims (most people like the big rear lips) on an AWD is less than ideal as it puts a lot of stress on the drive train and might confuse the AWD system, again, people have done it before and there is a workaround, but some just don't like the risk involved as well
personally, if AWD is needed in my home state, i wouldn't bother modifying it at all

I'm a little curious as to why as well. Audi's have no problem with dropping our quattro cars and running staggared. Is there something i'm missing?
You can use the lowering springs to get the look you want, and like others said, although you may not get a true stagger set-up, you can get the look of a staggered set-up. And if you search the forum, several members are running staggered set-up on AWD and in theory, if you keep the overall diameter the same, it would be alright.
Getting AWD in areas where it snows quite a bit is a responsible decision you're making for yourself, your passengers, and other drivers on the road. No matter how good of a driver you are, what you're driving is important as well. Don't regret the decision you've made and make the best out of it. Trading it in for a RWD version would most likely be a really bad financial decision.
I have been riding on my lowered GS300 AWD for 2 1/2 years without a problem. If I get a 2009 GS350 I will lower that too or even a GS450H for that matter. I never staggered my wheels though.
