Thats normal of the car. It does this in order to help slow down the car in conjunction with the brakes.

lol, no its normal. At low speeds like under 10mph I feel the car downshift into 1st gear as well, pretty odd but it does it. I'm not sure how Lexus programs the gearing but from what I am assuming it has to go from 1st to 6 and then 6 to 1? What goes up, must come down, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, its just that its not like simple down shifting. My 2006 X5 had an abrupt upshift during downshifting and required software upgrages for this, It feels like a a car bumping you in the rear.

So its not like a true downshift, but catch up of RPMs during downshift.

yep have the same thing. The car is set up to use compression braking in hard stops.( technical term). I notice that when I punch it really hard and back off the gas the car holds the same gear. I am assuming this is for added response if another short blast is needed
